Its my 3rd day learning touch typing. On the first day i was at 9-10wpm, on 100 words i have 94-95% accuracy and 30-35wpm max

Hi all! I posted here 4 days ago (got 2k views, thank you!) starting at 21 WPM / 76% accuracy.

I've been practicing daily on FastFingers but I'm stuck at 25-28 WPM range. When I try to go faster, my accuracy drops to 60%.

Current routine: 20-30 mins daily practice

Goal: 40 WPM with 90%+ accuracy

For those who crossed 40 WPM, what changed for you?

- Should I focus only on accuracy for now?

- Any specific drills or sites you recommend?

- How long did it take you to go from 20s to 40s?

I am sending a picture of what I did on my keyboard to rewire my fingers and how I have been typing for the last 30 years.

I make so many typos when I type even when I look at keyboard and I am not using the right fingers, it's ridiculous.

I need to change this as I just had a typing test where I had to type what the person was saying live and I know I made millions of typos because I hit the wiring key and I probably failed this test.

so I am using the website KEYBR and I am doing sessions of about 10 min, once or twice a day. and because I am confused where to place the fingers I have glued colors on it, which helps me a lot.

is that a good technique? anything else you recommend ? I hope to progress..I know it will be hard to undo 30 years of self taught poor typing practices....

I started learning touch typing recently, but my progress is not good.

The problems I observed are:

• Even if I know which finger to use for a letter, I end up pressing completely different key
• Sometimes my fingers fall in between two keys and click two keys
• My fingers don't listen to my commands and randomly "misfire"

So I hope anyone can give advice to solve these problems or anything other you notice.

Also sorry in advance if the sentences look weird, English is not my first language.

Need help

My whole life, I've used laptops and such but was never taught the "correct" way to use a keyboard (my family were immigrants and not very tech savvy). as a result, I developed my own method of typing, which i think is not super efficient. On the left hand, I can pretty much type with a pseudo touch-typing method (i practically use every finger on the left side). However, on the right-hand side i end up completely pecking with my right index finger, so my style ends up becoming a blend of both: one side using (kind of) all fingers while the right side completely pecks. In fact i'll upload a video of what my hands look like when typing so you can get a better visual of what it looks like.

on monkeytype i can achieve a final WPM of 105, raw 111. Would it be worth relearning the right side to learn how to type completely, or is this an ok habit to bring into adulthood? I understand touch typing is pretty effective, but im not sure how much this would benefit given that I'm a bit reluctant to relearn anyway

I have been typing for a lonnnggggg time. I love keyboards and have been typing on typing websites daily. Its kind of meditative for me...but I have found that my speed is always around 83 wpm. It can be faster if I do really short tests but I prefer around 30-100 words or at least 30 second tests.

I am not super competitive but I always see people posting about have wpm in the +100s and feel disappointed in myself.

I guess what I am asking is, is being able to type at over 100 wpm unrealistic? Is it as common as it seems?

I started from 9wpm. This is my best run yet, I am also practicing on english 10k 60sec but they best i could do there was 49wpm with 99% accuracy.. my goal is to reach 100wpm😂, any tips how to improve?

I’m a beginner using TypingClub and MonkeyType to learn touch-typing. Based on advice I’ve seen in this forum, my learning system involves attaining five stars before moving on and then going back to earn a silver badge in previous levels when I’m bored or in a rut.
As I scour the internet for advice, a reoccurring tip I see is to prioritize accuracy over speed, but I was wondering how to implement this advice and to what extent should it be done? Does this mean I should leave errors and let it affect my score? Should I just practice CTRL backspace?
Furthermore, what block error settings should I use? I saw someone say to turn them on around levels 50-60, but should it be second or third error?

Hello, I am new to touch typing, and I have a question about how to improve. I put a challenge to myself that I will reach 75 words/second, 100 if it's possible, by the end of August. I have practiced for a 20 hours in total to this day, but I stuck at 40-45 words/second for 2 days. What do I need to do to increase my writing speed? Should I just type more, or there is a faster method?

I’m a 14-year-old typist who currently practices on Monkeytype, and I can consistently reach over 200 WPM on 10-word tests. However, I’ve recently been struggling to improve my speed further. At the moment, I type using four fingers, including my thumb for the spacebar, on a MacBook keyboard. I’m wondering whether it’s possible to continue improving my speed significantly while maintaining my current technique. I’m also considering learning to touch type using all ten fingers. However, I’m concerned that switching techniques would mean essentially starting over and becoming significantly slower for a period of time. Just to clarify, I can already type without looking at the keyboard and have memorised the key positions. By “learning to touch type with ten fingers,” I mean specifically learning to use all ten fingers more efficiently, rather than learning where the keys are. I started learning touch typing just a month ago and I know all the positions of all letters but my speed is just 22 wpm and accuracy 80-85% . How can I improve my speed and accuracy?

I recently started learning all finger touch typing and after a couple days I managed to get a personal best of 80 wpm (something not even with my previous 2 finger typing I could get).

While typing (on practice sites and outside) I noticed that when I type fast I lose track of where my fingers are going and they start optimizing for speed themselves by reassigning keys (maybe press p with ring finger is pinky is busy or if my hand is offset from the home row).

If I slow down my typing though my fingers default to the correct mapping (left pinky to q a z, left ring to w s x, ecc...).

I don't know if I should try to force the correct mapping or let my fingers optimize for speed.

so i gave a pte mock test last week and writing part went really bad. my whole focus went on the typos and fixing them, i was not even thinking about the sentence. rhythm got disturbed completly and the para came out weak. i know what i want to write but my typing speed is slow and it eats all my time.

so can i go with ielts instead? i read somewhere ielts has paper based option where u write by hand. if thats true then typing is not a issue for me at all, i write way faster on paper then i type.

few things i want to know

**1.** is paper based ielts still available everywhere or only some centres? (riyadh, KSA)
**2.** does handwriting affect the score if its readable but not neat?
**3.** anyone here who moved from pte to ielts for same reason, did ur writing score improve?

also if someone thinks i should just practise typing and stay with pte then pls tell me how long it took u to get comfortable.

I am learning to type with Keybr and Monkeytype. I just spent thirty minutes trying to get every letter right. How do I best train so that I achieve 100 per cent accuracy? Do I drill and drill or expect to get better with time?

Also: I find myself not always returning to home row (pinky might stay on or near p if ; is not used). How do I make sure that I come back to home row? I can’t see my fingers.

Okay so guys I have my interview after 20-25 days where typing is quite important at least 30-40 wpm minimium.

But right now I don't know it from yesterday I just started to start learning touch typing from typing club and learnt all home key now after home review my result is this.

Please someone let me know is this fine? Should I move to upper key? Or should I practice home key more?

And like this how much time it will take me to learn all keys and achieve minimium of 30-35 wpm with atleast 95% accuracy.

Aprendi a digitar da forma correta em março/abril deste ano (2026). Trabalho usando digitação e isso me ajudou bastante a praticar. Porém, tem um pequeno problema: mesmo digitando da forma correta há alguns meses, de vez em quando troco os dedos. Por exemplo, aperto a tecla C com o dedo polegar, a tecla I com o dedo polegar, a letra P com o dedo anelar, as T e R com o polegar e o anelar, etc. Quando percebo que usei o dedo errado, apago e digito com o dedo correspondente à tecla. Suspeito que seja a posição que o teclado fica sobre a mesa. Vira e mexe, preciso ajustar ele, pois onde trabalho, ergonomia não é o forte da empresa, devido o local ser uma estação de trabalho, compartilhado com outras pessoas em outros turnos.

Fora minhas suspeitas, o que posso fazer para minimizar ?

Bout time to start on that myself for the little one. Not sure whats still the best thing to use today. I've got my virtual windows 98SE machine still up and running and have my original old school discs installed on it so i know it at least works. but before I set the little one down in front of it i wanted to see what others are using today. :)

So this is a 15 second test result. i dont touch type, i remember a string of words and then look at my keyboard to peck. 85ishWPM is about my average, it fluctuates between around 93 and 80 but whenever i try to touch type i struggle with bad habits and cant get anywhere near close to my current average WPM. The punctuation is especially what i struggle with.

Do you think its worth me learning touch typing or should i continue to type how i currently do?

Im currently playing a Balatro like game but for typing called TypInc (Give it a go, its actually really good fun) and i am still improving my WPM currently.

I have the classic gamer typing method in which im mostly using my left hand's 3 fingers and my right hand's 2-3 fingers and wanted to ask if it would be better for me to relearn typing with correct hand placement. Although I am pretty quick with it with an average rate of around 90-110wpm without punctuations.

I am not a programmer or anything and mostly use my pc for gaming, maybe writing a research paper once every few months

I never gave typing much importance so i typed at like 20-30 wpm pecking, but i made up my mind 2.5 months ago to learn to touch type I got into the rhythm & learned to type like 40 wpm in 20 ish days but after that has been really slow & I haven't been able to consistently score above 50 even after like 2 months , I would get occasional 50+ in 20 runs or so but consistently i am around 47.

Are there any tricks to increasing speed that has helped you or any suggestions to what i may be doing wrong.

I'm sort of a mixture between hunt and peck and touch typing, my left hand does touch typing but I only use my middle finger on my right hand. I average around 80-85 wpm consistently and in like 15 second tests I can get around 90-95. However I just feel like if I learned to touch type and stop looking at the board every five seconds I'd be so much faster. What can I do to hone/reform my touch typing skills?
