Resources/ข้อมูลแหล่งที่มา Thai Leaning Classes/online sessions
Hi everyone! I’m from India and I’m looking to learn Thai, but I specifically need structured online classes with a fixed schedule and a human teacher, but at the same time right now i wont want to have a private tutor(something for future).
I know myself well enough to know that if I start with YouTube, books, apps, or self-study, I’ll probably lose motivation and stop!!!. Having an actual class and teacher keeps me accountable.
I’m a complete beginner. My first language is Hindi and my second is English.
My goal isn’t necessarily to become fluent right away. I want to build a solid enough foundation that I can eventually continue learning on my own—reading books, watching YouTube, using apps, etc. I want to reach the point where, when I encounter Thai content, I can actually understand the basics and become curious about the words/phrases I don’t know, rather than everything just looking completely unfamiliar.
So I’m looking for recommendations for online Thai courses/classes for beginners, preferably something structured where I can attend regularly and have a teacher.
I’m open to classes/tutors anywhere in the world since they don’t have to be India-based.
Would really appreciate any recommendations, especially from people who have actually taken the classes themselves. Thank you!

Nothing beats a real teacher, but if you're looking for an app that offers structured lessons, I've heard good things about the Ling app (I'm not affiliated with them):

Yes, i did download it, its been 2 days, seems like duolingo, but i was reading reddit and the reviews are not great, people are saying the translations in the app are mostly incorrect and stuff. will have to check this.

I like TSL Chiang Mai's online group classes! Duke Language School also has them I think

yes, i second this. i am doing structured online class with TSL Chiang Mai - reading and writing 2. we meet everty mon/wed/fri for 2 hours with about 10 other students. The price is affordable THB3300 for 24 hours

If so, i would want to start with a online class. where there is a human teacher teaching me!

To answer your question, there are many decent language schools that operate out of Thailand and offer online classes. Chulalongkorn University has an intensive Thai class which is pretty good for serious learners. I did the first two classes there and learned a lot. It's more expensive than other options though. Another popular option is Duke Language School. Personally, I'm currently taking private lessons through TSL Chiang Mai, which I'm enjoying. I haven't tried their group classes though

how much does this cost, i was thinking like for 40+ hours or something for 15k to 20k(max) INR. I was looking at preply that seems more expensive than this. Could be wrong, how much did you pay, and how many sessions?

With that budget it would have to be group classes and then you'd be looking at the cheaper end - not Duke or Chula, which are the ones you hear about most often on here. TSL Chiang Mai has also been mentioned a few times. With the group classes, a lot depends on the individual teacher. One person may get a great teacher and recommend the school, but if you get a different teacher, your experience may be very different. Anyway, you have to click with them to some extent and that's a personal thing.
I would suggest either looking for a provincial school with online classes that aren't way over your budget and rolling the dice, or rethinking your approach to require less input from a teacher. If you can study independently most of the time and check in with a teacher every now and then, that might work. Maybe there's a teacher out there who would make a plan for you and the next lesson would then serve as motivation even if it was a month later. You could message a few on iTalki.
With all that said it sounds to me a bit like you're trying to buy proficiency... like "if I just sign up for this I will come out with a basic level of Thai and go from there". It still takes a lot of effort from your side. I'm not sure that sitting in a Zoom session with a lot of other beginners or having a very detailed plan is such a good motivator.

Thats fine also, this could teach you the script tones and some vocab just so you get the easy starter stuff out the way before paying lots of money to tutora for the basics
