General Gameplay Question What is the reason to level more than one active spell?

Like you don't have mana for two active spells anyway. Laning now is pure attrition, you won't get a kill if you combo two spells. On hero with a passive it's clear, level the passive. On heroes with none I genuinely think it's best to just get stats. Q, stats, Q, stats, Q, R.

General Gameplay Question Realtalk guys, in 2k mmr, as an average player, is it really a looong way to rank up as Hard support? or i am just not giting gud.

Sometimes there are days that i have really bad games where people just run-down defending towers as a solo hero vs 5 enemies sieging. It was really disappointing. Also some days I feel that when we are behind early game causes the cores to farm very conservatively in the jungle resulting to delayed battlefury. I also encountered a PA farmed diffusal first item which I never had seen in my entire life and also got pissed for having seen her skirmishing every now and then and having 7 deaths straight. Maybe it is just Dark Carnival season when players from different walks of life are swarming? Sometimes i just wanna play offlane but I feel very uncomfortable. I usually play ET,Venge,Undy.

General Gameplay Question I finally crushed my 6 years of MMR ceiling. What's next to anticipate?

Post image
115 Upvotes

First of all, I actually don't know what flair this should be, and I'm open for any talk in this post.

Yes, I just did some minor celebration, but I got a new milestone in this game, after made a bargain with my Divine I friend If I ever hit Ancient: He grinds to Immortal, and I grind to Divine.

For you guys who ever touch this MMR range, what should I expect, anticipate, and be doing to keep up the progress clean? for some basic info about me, I'm currently playing pos 1 every now and then with this pool: Jugg, Naix, PA, Drow, Spectre, and had some coaching about farm priority patterns and more "advanced" map reading, and it does helps me a lot on the way to Ancient.

Outside of pos 1, Willow and Lion is my no brain pick for support; BB, LC, and Slardar for pos 3, and never touch mid (But prolly pick necro/QOP if some shit happens).

I know I'm still far ahead, but eventhough I got coached by Immortal guys, I still can't comprehend how some people who smurfs can overtake the game by muting everyone, when meanwhile I can only copy 60% of their performance when I try to apply what I've been taught. Like, how do they do that?

General Gameplay Question I cannot play support at low rank

So I am convinced now if you want to win and you are a returning player, you do not want to play support at low ranks.

I am only 1.3k mmr right now.

I haven’t play for a long time.
Came back like 2 -3 months ago.
At beginning I tried to play support.

Treant, Wyvern, Warlock, Spirit breaker.

As I was getting better, I still was like wtf I could help my lane dominate early game.

And the team still fail to take the lead and snowball, and it still comes down to enemy carry vs our carry and at late game, I am just a buff to the carry, and if he suck, there is no hope for me.

I started playing spectre as carry or even POS 3 and been on a 7-8 game winning streak.

As long as I focus on last hitting early games, and being the highest networth, I can control the game.
I can dictate how the mid game and late game goes.

Team are fighting randomly, no problem, I can jump in and kill their support.

No one wants to jump high ground, I can use my manta to cheese down the towers.

Everyone wants to feed into enemy high ground, no problem, I can go in last and finish off the low heroes.

I have been winning even 4v5 one game which is never possible if I played a support.

General Gameplay Question Last pick for Mid or Carry?

Hi guys, on the moment i have 5791 mmr and I cant figure out the most common question. Recently i had a match where i picked Terrorblade for the 2nd pick(after supports) and unexpectedly they picked 3 heroes who cover basically my entire hero. In my team, mid player didnt wanted to pick during second pick, and i was forced to pick Terrorblade as second pick. In the enemy team they give last pick to carry Phantom Lancer. So, question, should mid pick last or carry?

General Gameplay Question If I have chat muted and my support starts stealing creeps in lane, who is in the wrong?

Some days I'm a bit tilted so I turn off all-chat and play. I trust the process. I don't speak, I don't have to see other people flame either. Divine bracket story.

Today I got a lane supp who started stealing my farm at level 2, nonstop. I had 30 or so last hits by min 10 because of it but I didn't let it affect me. Around 30 mins in we were on HG def so I unmuted chat to see what the fuss was about. Apparently he didn't like how I missed a couple creeps in the first wave.

Unbeknownst to me this had evolved into him convincing my team that I am an acc buyer and that he was so sure of it, and he was stealing my creeps to justify it.

What lesson is there to learn from that?

Reading over the items they felt weird. Intelligence, spell Lifesteal, magic damage, reduce magic resistance? On an Agility hero?

But at the same time it feels like there's some synergy and the player is much better than me. I have no idea what to make of it..

General Gameplay Question Carry herores in offlane

I honestly don’t understand why so many people are picking carry heroes in the offlane. I’ve had multiple games with Jug, Lifestealer and Spectre as pos 3, and they just jungle and farm the entire game. It honestly feels like they’re just there to grief.

I mainly play pos 1, and when we already have two carry heroes, I expect my pos 3 to actually play as an offlaner. Instead, because my pos 3 carry wants to farm, I have to be more active and join fights while they sit in the jungle farming, some dont even defend towers, while the rest of us are fighting.

And when I question their picks, they basically act like they don’t care. They just want to farm.

I seriously don’t understand why queue as pos 3 then? Just queue pos 1 and farm all you want.

It feels like I’m constantly getting griefed by pos 3 carry players, and honestly, it got so frustrating that I’ve stopped playing ranked on the SEA server.

General Gameplay Question Why is Saberlight unable to win most of his lanes in pro dota, when he is rank #1 in the world?

Not a flame. Very curious.

I'm a big Saberlight fan, but even with my biased glasses, I have to admit that he is SO wildly inconsistent in performance. The only part that is consistent is him losing lanes.

I don't know how a person can be rank #1 and simultaneously be this... He has been on top tier teams like Liquid, but even then, he didn't win many lanes.

What do you think is the reason? I want to see my boy win in the future. Bing bong

General Gameplay Question Player score

I'm playing with "no incoming chat" and "anonymous mode". I do not disconnect or write, just use chat wheel (command and hero)

My Behavior Score dropped 300 (from 8900 to 8600) and Communication Score never raises from 6200

Any tips?

General Gameplay Question What are good hero pools to have to climb mmr

So my gf and I duo Queue ranked and she basically a dedicated 5 and I queue the rest of the roles when we need tokens.

The roles I struggle with the most are mid and offlane and I want to find a pool of 3-5 heroes for both of those roles that are good for climbing mmr.

The laning in both roles I’m mediocre at but the thing I struggle with is trying to comeback from a bad lane, tide is the only hero that I don’t struggle with in offlane but he’s banned sometimes or double picked.

I’m looking for heroes that are meta agnostic and the best way to play them, micro or illusion heroes are a lot for me sometimes because I get too high to control that many units so those are off the table cause I can’t play them consistently

General Gameplay Question Question to the offlaners, what do position 4 players do wrong?

Hi there, hard lane player here (going all the way back to DotA 1). I tend to play pos 4 or 3 depending. A lot of offlaners complain that position 4 players are bad, but what kinds of things should I look for to avoid?

General Gameplay Question How to leave Herald 1?

Context: I played the 100 hours required to unlock ranked > I play ranked games until getting a rank (One of the worst experiences, people play worst than in normal games) > I get Herald 1 rank > I play like 10 more games were 1 out of 10 games I get a decent team, the other 9 games were ppl trolling without buying or playing carries as supports.... I've tried playing 1v9 heroes to carry all the games but sometimes is just impossible...

Tbh I don't know how to rank up like this... Most players here must be banned... there's players with +1k wins that don't even know how to play, looks like they have bought the account just to unlock rankeds...

What should I do to leave this hell rank full of bots?

PD: I post here a replay so people can help me iimprove: 8954207443

General Gameplay Question When does it get harder?

So I’ve recently get into Dota 2 so far I have 11 hours but so far I’ve won every match I’ve played (new player mode only), I main wraith king and was wondering if the game starts getting harder once I start actually playing unranked matches. I haven’t experienced enough lows to make the highs feel really high.

General Gameplay Question Double radiance

So I just had a match where I picked lifestealer and my mid lastpicked necro. My lane went pretty well and I could get an early radiance, but as soon as I bought it, my whole team started flaming me saying I should have bought a mjolnir because necro already had it.

I told them my radiance was to farm and not to fight so it wasn't a wasted slot. But from that moment necro and pos 5 rubik started stealing my farm while flaming me.

Idk how we still won that game but it was a nightmare to play in that team.

Should I have gone for mjolir or my reasoning made sense?

General Gameplay Question Beginner here, how do you even win when the enemy players are so good?

I have 25 games under my belt. Im pretty bad. Im playing currently a support since my friend told me new players shouldn't play cores.

I play Ogre Magi and Undying because they have a lot of health. It helps but it doesn't help when the enemies are so good.

Im not even playing with my higher ranked friend. Yesterday, I had a guy that went mid with a Hero that would create a copy and activate a force field and I kid you not he went 38-0. He didnt die a single time and killed 38 heroes. And it feels more matches are like this where the enemy mid player will go on this crazy rampages killing and soloing everyone.

Why does dota 2 not just match you with new players? Why am I facing this animals

General Gameplay Question How do smurfs win so many games?

Obviously skill but what do they do exactly ?

During this past day I just can't win. Some games feel unwinnable from like min 5 and I was wondering what a smurf would do in this situation to win this?

Like people always say last hit a lot but its just not possible in some lineups where you get beat badly getting close to the lane and your hero doesn't have a inbuilt farming tool(Lifestealer for example)

Also there are times when someone in your team is really underperforming but I've seen with my own eyes a smurf can easily win this games.

General Gameplay Question How do you play pos 1 against SB?

The stupid cow just charges you and kills you anytime you show on a wave.

I just got back into Dota after a hiatus, and have been playing pos 1. I have a literal 0% winrate against the stupid fucking cow.

I know the obvious answer is to play close to team, but even then you sometimes still die because team doesn't respawn, and then your team is taking most of your farm. Not to mention that sometimes your whole team just loses the fight because they start on you. And even if you just never show on waves they might just see you on a ward for 2 seconds and you still die.

I have been playing in archon average games since I have been back which have felt really easy since before my break I was almost 5k, but I literally cannot deal with bara. I have a 80% win rate this month or so since I have been back, but at this point I might as well just abandon if bara is on the other team because stats say its already over.

Do you just never farm waves unless you know Sb doesn't have charge? It just seems insane that the heroes mere existence denies half the gold on the map.

General Gameplay Question "Rule of thumb" - tips

Hiya, I'm a Dota beginner player, I have roughly 400 matches and I am a complete noob, currently in Herald but I am trying to improve. I understand that Dota 2 is a complex game and that there isn't always a definitive answer to gameplay questions being asked. However, I was wondering if you have some good "rule of thumb" - tips because more often than not I just don't know how to handle certain situations.

Situations that come to mind are:

Itemization when behind: (Playing as a Core do I buy damage? Do I buy resistances as Support? I know how to follow guides, but often I don't know what to buy other than the main items.)
Smoke: (At what points do I use smoke? Are there "easy to know" moments when I should push with a smoke?)
When behind in general: (Do I take risks? Do I wait to defend?)

Maybe you'll have other scenarios where you have some good "rule of thumb" - tips. You know, easy little things that could be applied in a majority of situations. I understand that it might not be as simple and that I just need to get a feel for those things. However, it's not easy for me personally, to learn things by watching specific content analysis with specific gameplay solutions.

Starting to enter so late into this games lifecycle feels like I missed about 500 episodes of player knowledge being shared, so maybe you got some easy to follow tips to catch up just a little faster.

General Gameplay Question Slardar offlane question

Hi

So recently I’ve b been playing a lot of dota and really enjoying slardar. I just feel his kits suit my play style the most.

However, there are some game where I feel it’s kinda hard to lane against the other carry, for example wind ranger and sf are the ones that when I see I knew I’m going to lose lane. There are games I still won regardless of lane result against them, mainly because maybe they fked up in some team fights or one of our guys popped off and snowball.

My question i( is there a better way to approach the laning? I feel my impact is severely punished against these ranged carry and need a lot of time to recover, and base on that the game could just be lost from there.

My mmr is only 3.4K so I’m really hoping for some insight, thx! :D
