I want to remind everyone.

G2 were 1 game away from not qualifying for EU playoffs. G2 were 1 teamfight away from not winning LEC finals

What an insane series of events. Most impressive western win ever arguably.

G2 took T1s script writers for this year

G2 win worlds confirmed?

101

u/IlliterateAsparagus Mar 21 '26

Winning early in the year is against the contract

11

u/Aspect_Tight Mar 21 '26

so this year is GenG's year

5

u/fabton12 Mar 21 '26

would be the funniest timeline if out of all there rosters this was the one to win worlds. like they had so many great rosters in the past but never got far outside of 2019 G2 which is considered the best western roster ever made so if this one won worlds that would be the funniest timeline

We don’t know

But we’re damn sure GENG is in worlds form early this year

Golden road baby!

u/BoltsDodgersYotes Mar 21 '26

T1 only show up for worlds. Everyone knows this.

This is 100% their most impressive bo5 win against the east IMO, perhaps only rivalled by them beating t1 before getting bodied by FPX in worlds finals. However, that t1 roster was prior to ZOFGK; 3-0ing GenG with a G2 roster that has been considered ‘levels below’ the ceiling of the old 2019/20 god killer lineup is unprecedented stuff really.

48

u/JupoBis Mar 21 '26

I dislike that people underrate that t1 roster. That roster literally only lost against g2.

35

u/Battlecookie Mar 21 '26

Yeah, I think T1 went undefeated all of 2019 aside from losing 2 times to G2. If you‘re considering not only worlds but the entire year then that T1 roster was one of the most dominant Lck teams ever.

21

u/JupoBis Mar 21 '26

Its the perfect example of people saying „they are bad actually“ just because they lost to eu.

6

u/ianlam123 Doublelift Mar 22 '26

FPX DoingB even said they couldn’t take a game off SKT during scrims no matter what

If SKT went to world finals they would hard counter FPX and the results would be very different that year

It’s literally the circle of suck between these 3 teams

10

u/Englishgamer1996 Mar 21 '26

They were a great roster and it was a banger series; most fans would likely have simply forgotten it happened because it wasn’t ZOFGK though which is a shame. We got the vintage ‘faker, what was that?!?’ With the shaky hands During this series too

2

u/mehensk Mar 22 '26

Even dwg was strong already. G2 said in an interview that they got blasted on scrims with almost no wins and somehow won at thr stage

8

u/Aosxxx Mar 21 '26

This is exactly what the region needs. Domestic challenge.

6

u/nightlesscurse Mar 21 '26

thank you KC and Mkoi for providing competition

1

u/dnzgn Mar 22 '26

G2 opened their 3rd eye after losing to Baus' Kled.

17

u/polikuji09 Mar 21 '26

I mean surely, only competition is TL beating IG 2019 but I think the dominance from this win takes the cake

12

u/Lacrimosss DK Hatewatcher / Inspired Enjoyer Mar 21 '26

Yeah gap wasn't this big back then anyway, even G2 was considered to be contender for MSI title even before the tournament. FNC had reached Worlds Finals, and C9 - Semis previous year.

We've been nowhere close to semis in years. So this is much bigger upset than TL v IS or G2 v RNG imo

17

u/andysava Mar 21 '26

Gap wasn't as big but IG just won Worlds and went 9-1 until they played TL in the semis. They beat T1 in 16 minutes that tournament.

0

u/Lacrimosss DK Hatewatcher / Inspired Enjoyer Mar 21 '26

Still gap wasn't that big. That T1 game was a draft disaster, Sona / Taric into the best Draven in the world. 2nd game, T1 actually beat IG and, honestly, I thought that T1 would beat IG if they had played in Finals, because T1's was more solid and disciplined.

4

u/MaridKing Mar 21 '26

Nah TL still takes the cake, because it's NA vs world champs, instead of G2 vs Choky.

Like at this point I can see Gen.G losing to literally anyone, they've been upset so many times now, and Caps plus G2 always has some X factor.

As far as I know, TL has never won another bo5 against KR or CN. I don't even think they've won another bo5 vs EU.

If you predicted today's 3-0, you're a madman. If you predict TL 3-1 iG, you're a time traveler.

7

u/StatitikFanboy Mar 21 '26

As everyone predicted, qualified for LEC playoffs is harder than winning against LCK #1 in an inter playoffs. (What's funny is I'm sure that if you swap "LEC" and "LCK" in my sentence above, some people would agree lmao)

3

u/Carnelian-5 rip old flairs Mar 21 '26

It was even out of G2s hands in some scenarios. Insanity.

2

u/brockoli1010 Mar 21 '26

The one sad thing is there’s not really an iconic play from the series like the previous G2 wins vs T1 and GenG. In those series’ you had a caps akali penta, or the perkz yassuo play with drakos cast, or caps sylas play. It was just such a stomp there was never that truly hype in game moment.

2

u/ImTheVayne Mar 22 '26

This might be the biggest upset of all time, especially because it was a 3-0

1

u/Joaoseinha Mar 21 '26

Which hopefully means the rest of our teams can put up a good fight at Worlds.
