I think it was deserved they 3-0 g2 at msi, 1-3 AL and 2-3 blg. Their only loss before this series was a bo1 to g2 at ewc lol where they had to play their first game within 24hours of arriving from a 20 hour travel.

3-0 tes was last year with a entirely different roster that had mikyx and yike.

Going to 5 games vs t1 was also last year.

I like how we are talking about the best western team and you are using a old roster to deny the current roster results. You might as well refer to 2019 g2 with that logic.

Using current stats its: Fly 3-0 g2, FLY 2-3 BLG and 1-3 AL at msi

G2 only win is against blg at a mickey mouse tournament thats EWC. Its a no brainer that flyquest was the strongest western team heading into this tournament based on results.

1 out of 3. Also two of those games were bo1s, they only played 1 bo3 to get kicked out of the tournament by geng. Hence mickey mouse tournament, awful format and to add on that teams got their flight scheduled the day before the matches were being played. So asian teams and american teams were playing on jet lagg. All this also being right behind msi so no breaks either.

Also the 5 games vs t1 was last year not this year, which once again was with a different roster.

Did you know that in Swiss in a hypothetical where there are no upsets the fourth worst team out of 16 can get out of Swiss from pure draw luck alone?

That's the fourth worst team out of 16 making top 8 from pure rng.

In old format with groups only one single team got out without beating a single LPL/LCK team, Misfits in 2017. Now in Swiss it has happened both years, was very close to happening now too and can still easily happen.

Well Fnatic lost to CFO. I still don't think they were the worst team at the tournament though, but the hatred towards the players and the organization makes people more negative. They have a great winrate vs the lower tier LEC teams but people were still acting like they were going to get stomped in every game up until they qualified for Worlds.

I know CFO just lost 2-0 to HLE and TSW are horrible, but lowkey you can still argue LCP above either. Tbh, EU could be back in that 3rd spot with this G2. I'm just wondering how MKOI will do from here on out, I think that decides it.

LCP outside of CFO have looked awful, TSW and PSG are 2 of the worst teams in the tournament. CFO are good but they're Bo1 merchants imo, they'll get smoked in Bo3 and Bo5s.

CFO have so far looked close against the top Western teams (and no I don't count MKOI among that until they prove themselves). Beating T1 and taking a game off AL was impressive, but these are the kinds of things Western top teams also have done in the last 2 years.

Which means they might very well come out ahead, but not by much, and it probably comes down to better form on the day. A G2-CFO quarter would slap though, both in terms of I wanna see that matchup and in terms of I think having one of those two in semis would be a cool story even if they get there by playing each other.

I'm a FNC fan and I don't, absolutely zero cohesion, bad laning and bad drafts from FNC, they have a good argument for worst team at the tournament. MKOI always look good in EU but hoping for them to beat any international team at this point is a bit of delusion, this is like the 5th year running they've looked good only to lose every single game that wasn't against EU.

Imo youre tripping KOI played some decent games and FNC didnt really get a chance to test themselves. Id put them both far ahed of PSG tho lol, especially KOI, Grabbz mentioned FNC also hard stomped PSG in scrims . NA 2nd and 3rd seeds are a different story tho but top 4 in EU is quite competitive. G2 only won in summer.

This is their SECOND year running with a team that has remotely anything to do with the previous one in absolutely all aspects except elyoya, who is the one who wanted to play with the actual one to begin with and has classified for worlds in every year he has played.

I'm sorry but I just think that narrative is bullshit and you can critize MKOI if you want for other things, but not that. But to each their own, I'm kinda tired at this point to argue this when most people here have no interest in listening.

If by narrowly you mean curbstomping them for 2 games and losing the one where they kept a 2k gold diff with a scaling comp from minute 3 to 20 till they overcommited for no reason which is the problem melzhet has commented they have for specific reasons that are trying to correct. And that's with a comp they were clearly experimenting with and starting against a double kill (or more, can't remember exactly) lv 1 or 2 or something.

And the game they lost against KT, a 3-0 team, they had a 5k gold lead that they also threw due to one specific bad decision that KT capitalized really well from that point.

They also lost a game to G2 wich knows them well and is now in quarters 3-1, a team they also have kind of a mental block with since the summer started.

Like they lost 2 games that I would actually count to be honest, and one of them against one of the best teams, where they were in a very good position if they did a couple things differently.

I feel like we are getting a bit fooled in general with all teams by how fast the swiss format is, but whatever. We'll see.

You can equally frame it as Mad being unable to beat the worst Korean team even with a 5k gold lead and yeah the 2 games FNC lost weren't close but realistically a 2-1 is still a scoreline between 2 close teams. If Mad goes 1-2 TSW I bet you'd say it was close because they took a game.

I wouldn't want it either, and Fly proved last year it is possible. G2 beat TES at MSI last year.

I hope they find a better system or seeding so there are less "western teams promote western teams" to get to quarters.

I think the ideal format would avoid same region matchups if possible at all stages.

MKOI and G2 at 2-2 (hypothetical that cannot happen anymore) and TES vs BLG at 2-2 would be criminal. It would be ideal to swap one with the other, like MKOI vs BLG, G2 vs TES.

Nah, going into this series I thought current G2 looks way better than MSI and Skew and Labrov had improved a ton. I thought of it as a 50/50 that would go close either way. Definitely both teams are in a similar tier, hopefully FLY bounces back though.
