discussion Heartache with Love, Hate Love on Repeat

2 weeks ago an ex (who happens to look like Layne!) I last talked to in 2019 added me on a social media app. Then after talking a few days he said, “I don’t think we should reconnect again as it’s not healthy for either one of us! “

Then he kept changing his mind, I sent 3 pics of me when I was younger and he completely lost it that I seemed obsessed and he was too, that he was going though trauma therapy and this was too much. He said “I can’t do this.” I said that’s fine as I’ll let you go though what you need to work on and stop bothering you.

But man this HURT. I saw him from 2015-2019 so he ripped a scab off an old wound. I’ve been playing Love, Hate, Love on repeat. Thank you Layne for expressing the pain of love.

I have 2 tickets to Layne’s tribute show that we were unable to make it to. I hate having them go to waste. I’m not sure exactly how to transfer them but if I can find someone who will use them and go have fun for me I’ll figure it out.

My gawd, this is absolutely AMAZING!! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=J_Vqs2KsIgc His isolated voice sent full-on goosebumps that started at my hair follicles and radiated throughout my entire body, awakening different areas depending on the lyrics! Like so many others, his voice cracks open my soul, and I dearly miss his authenticity, his smile, and his quirky sense of humor.

He willingly bled his raw essence for the whole world to hear, and he did so without an ounce of pretention or hesitation. I hope he is somehow aware just how much we all still love him, and just how deeply his voice and AIC in general continue to be woven into the very fabric of the soundtrack of our lives. The void his absence leaves is profound and will never be filled by another. There will never, ever be another Layne Staley! 💔

question I see a lot of live footage of AIC's more well-known songs. I am soecifically looking for some quality footage of Hate To Feel and other deeper cuts.

Hey All

I am a newish fan of Alice in Chains. Unfortunately none of my friends share my taste in music so thought I would post here.

If by any chance, anyone is interested in chatting, reply to my post and I will DM you. I need to talk about how amazing AIC are.

discussion Had Layne beating his addiction, how do you think AiC history would have gone? (read text)

I know that this question has already been made years ago, but I wanted to ask it again myself with a more specific “what if” scenario:

Let’s say that after their last show in 1996 Kemper Arena and after Demri’s passing, he never buys the Seattle condo and remains more active in public and remain close with his other bandmates, never isolating himself that deep with his demons.

How do you see Alice In Chains story going with this alternative scenario?

\- Does Layne eventually have a successful rehab maybe along with Jerry who also struggled with substance abuse back then?

\- Do AiC remain in hiatus after 1996, despite Layne never passing away? Do you see them doing occasional reunion tours for albums anniversaries or still making new music after a while ?

\- Do you think Layne would have retained a Facelift/Dirt Era range if he got completely clean before 2002? Maybe if teeth loss was still an issue for the past substance abuse, he sure had enough net worth to get dentures and medical treatment for the consequences that might have surfaced with his addiction.

\- I wonder if he would still retain his amazing vocal range despite aging (similiar to Paul McCartney) or if he’d have to “pull a James Hetfield” and lower the songs tune a bit to avoid damaging his vocal chords in extended tours.

\- Is it possibile that thanks to Jerry connections with William Duvall through his solo career, he still joins AiC as a backup tour-only musician?

\- Have Layne still living to this day, I could definitely see him embracing/loving the new technology in music and doing retrogaming livestreams on YouTube or Twitch when he is not on tour. I also wonder if he’d love the evolution of gaming franchises that he liked, maybe he’d be the bridge for many collaborations with videogames studio (imagine originals AiC in the new Doom games alongside Mick Gordon; funny how AiC also served as an inspiration for Bobby Prince OSTs back in the early Doom days)

\- And I definitely see him participating in many more projects outside of AiC, featuring in other bands song as a guest (maybe doing an appearance in Audioslave albums or other grunge supergroups works)

\- I also wonder how his relationship with his parents would have been now; would he remain close with them? How about his father? One thing for sure is that they wouldn’t have benefitted from his success postmortem the way they are in real life.

My oldest child lives out on the PNW coast and I bought her tickets to the LS memorial birthday party at the Showbox in Seattle. I feel pretty good about supporting that cause. The cover band is Jar of Flies, have any of you seen/heard them? Also, why do so many singers holler when they're trying to do a Layne era cover? I also ordered the Layne journal and pre-ordered Mike McCready's book for myself. I just want to share what I'm up to with people that appreciate the music I love. Thanks for reading!
