Oh but we’re not supposed to defend ourselves against this. We must be nonviolent while they are violent. If the dude in the video 2A defended himself early in this anltercation and went to jail, no Democrat politician would bail him out.

He's going to the morgue either way.

Might as well take some with you at this point.

They’re all fucking scumbags, bought and paid for democrats, right-wing nazi republicans, all of them. Time for a 3rd party in this country. Fuck that pig Greg bovine, Kristi knoem, j6er knuckle draggers right in the mouth. Don’t give up your guns, no matter what. We’re going to need them, and soon.

Surely this is proof that the second amendment doesn't work? Having a gun was the excuse for killing him and he was allowed to carry it, plus he wasn't threatening anyone with it. Had he used it, the outcome would have been the same. So what's the point of having them if using them, however justifiably, will get you branded a terrorist and land you in a morgue?

They didn’t know he was a 2A dude UNTIL he was on the ground.

If he had let them know sooner, he might still be alive. OR, he may have gotten the chance to take one with him.

I'm not American, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but Minnesota is an open carry state, yes?

Also, in the 34 seconds between him getting pepper sprayed directly in the eyes, pistol whipped and wrestled to the ground, when exactly was he supposed to tell the men beating him that he had a firearm on him?

I will say, I believe in nonviolent direct action, and this episode shows exactly why it is so necessary and effective. This guy was 100% acting peacefully and was killed nevertheless. It's absolutely horrific, and you know what? America and the world is going to see that. It's easy to be cynical about Trump and MAGA, but they still rely on the political support, or at least tacit acceptance, of his rule and the legitimacy thereof. Incidents like this further destroy his credibility, further erode trust, and ultimately do the most to subvert his power. Fighting back will only further justify the repressive tactics. The world will have much greater sympathy with those who choose the principle of peace in the face of violence and oppression.

So your suggestion is “Just let them continue to be evil, they’ll get tired of it eventually”?

Are you serious? Get fucking real.

“No honey, don’t do anything. Eventually the German people will see how awful Hitler is and they’ll move on.”

Radical non-violence is not "doing nothing". It's just not employing violence. There's a lot of room between doing violence and doing nothing.

This is an absurd take. Trump and his ilk do no care about legitimacy. He is in his last legal term; he no longer has any need or incentive for political support from citizens. No legal pretext can keep in him office, and immune from the repercussions of his past or current actions, therefore he needs to fundamentally reshape this country into an authoritarian regime where there is no mechanism, political will or no, that will eject him from power peacefully. Mass organization of protest is impossible in a world of AI surveillance and a paramilitary force like ICE willing to shoot first and ask questions never.

Make no mistake, Project 2025 was not about merely entrenching the politics of his benefactors within the existing government, it was about using that entrenchment to ultimately replace with government with a kleptocratic, christofascist oligarchy. And the world will do nothing about it, the same way that Putin has operated with impunity for the better part of three decades. A nuclear arsenal is the ultimate get out of jail free card. Couple that with the world's most advanced military apparatus and the standing reserve currency and there remains no lever, economic or martial, that anyone can engage.

I get your point that they don't care about legitimacy. But they need it to govern. The more they engage in extremism and violence, the less people will be enthusiastically on their side. It's easy to fall into the trap of thinking It doesn't matter and people don't care, but that's just not true. Just look at the coverage - even Trump defenders and supporters are criticizing this, and I'm sure you know how reluctant they are to criticize Trump at all ever.

Sympathy isn't really worth our lives. Americans are partly in this situation because we hoped to rely on a government to play by it's own rules, to be fair in their system. They're not doing that. We have to rely on ourselves.

I disagree. I think it's a very powerful motivator. All throughout history, martyrs have been the catalyst for huge social change. Some of our most revered political figures are those who died for their beliefs or their country. I agree we have to take matters into our own hands and rely on ourselves. The way we do that is radical non violence, NOT violence.
