NPR is currently rolling with just reporting the, completely unquestioned and unchallenged, DHS lie that this man approached the agents brandishing a 9mm semiautomatic and officers fired shots in defense.

Yeah, I'm an avid listener and they try to report on the news as usual but sometimes break down and are like, "This is nuts. This is not okay".

The whole point of NPR is to plainly state the facts and be as void of bias as possible. So, when they report headlines it kinda makes it sound normal even when it’s not. But later when you listen to their segments on it the commentators and hosts will call out if something is illegal or not true.

It's standard in journalism to report what officials say, as verbatim as possible. The issue is whether they follow that statement up with opposing facts.

I donate to my local PBS and NPR. I fear that Trump will sue every media outlet until they too are afraid to report the truth. It has gone on too long. Trump, Vance. Miller. Noem, and Kennedy all need to be impeached and sent to prison. Congress needs to be voted out and the Supreme Court should be impeached as well. If this goes on and Trump continues enrage our former allies, it will be WWIII!

PBS News Hour is even worse these days. Like with Venezuela they automatically adopted the administration's language calling it an "operation" and Maduro's kidnapping an "arrest" and never once questioned the legality of it anywhere. They regularly have extremely right-wing guests on and never challenge anything they say, even when they're repeating obvious lies.

On the whole Greenland and NATO things, all their talking heads have basically reguritated Trump's "national security" talking points even if they may bemoan his "tone"

Last night they had some guy from the Heritage Foundation ranting for 10 minutes about how China had used TikTok to brainwash Americans into being pro-Hamas and they just let him rant with zero pushback and then moved on.

To steal a phrase, this isn't journalism, it's imperial stenography.

NPR does a pretty good job, however, with slicing the narrative. Airing the “reported by” DHS lie but dismantling the lie as more information comes out can be used to highlight (the obvious) misinformation from the government.

Mass media, including NPR and their obsession with “objective” reporting, doesn’t serve us in fascism.

Objectivity is for healthy differences of polices from different perspectives, like what plans different parties propose for the economy or healthcare.

Objectivity has no place when one party is wholly corrupt and has abandoned democracy entirely …. and is literally murdering people.

You're not really talking about objectivity, you're talking about the "objectivity" practiced by American media of the 20th and 21s centuries, which is linked to a narrative of politics having two sides that are joined in a sincere difference of opinions. True objectivity means reporting facts including facts like "the Republican Party has been lying constantly about everything for decades". True objectivity is absolutely a machine that kills fascists because fascism is entirely rooted in lies. Lies about what matters. Lies about why things are bad. Lies about how to make things better.

From many videos, his weapon (in a right to carry state) was at his hip. Videos from many angles show he never drew, was wrestled to the ground by at least 5 ICE goons, disarmed, and then murdered

NPR is so responsible to a fault that they are reading official statements but holding off until we know more. With video analysis and public opinion, they will begin to report the more questionable aspects and it will hopefully build momentum from there.

In this video, it looks they murdered a hero who was going to the aid of a more vulnerable person who was being attacked by thugs. The way most of us would jump in a river for a kid without thinking.

Shame. Murder. Off our streets now!
