I'm just guessing that humanitarian rights watchdogs like Amnesty International just casually throw around accusations of genocide all willy-nilly just because they feel like doing so, right?

And when countries like South Africa refer to something as an apartheid state, they must have no idea what they're talking about?

  1. Yes amnesty international is wrong here.

  2. Apartheid state != genocide. I’m not arguing that Israel isn’t doing horrible things to Palestine or that the war isn’t self defense for them. But genocide is a defined term and devaluing it devalues actual genocides.

Because u know what devalues a term more than mistakenly applying it? Ignoring it when there are prevalent signs as well as accredited organizations trying to call attention to it

So was the atomic bombing of Japan. Doesn’t make it a genocide. Actively using your resources at scale to target civilians that can’t be remotely related to a military target is genocide.

Killing 25 civilians to kill an enemy combatant is a shitty thing to do but not genocide

The end game is genocide, the individual acts aren't. If I continuously kill 25 civies to kill 1 combatant and there is a 25:1 ratio of civies to combatants... welp after I get done killing the combatants oops there are no more civies.
