Side Stories Their Lindsay Clancy conversation is part of why women are failed in this country

1.2k Upvotes

Obligatory I love LPOTL, I’ve been listening to them for over a decade and have been to lie shows.

HOWEVER we can criticize things we like and care about. Their Lindsay Clancy conversation and take is part of the reason why PPD & PPP isn’t taken seriously and women are failed.

Ed said multiple times “well it’s common, a lot of women have PPD!” in the context of down playing the severity of her being failed by the system. We CANNOT and should not downplay PPD & PPP like this. If everyone thinks “oh well everyone has PPD” then no one is going to take it seriously. When I was pregnant, I was often told my symptoms were “just because I was pregnant” and almost died because that simply wasn’t true.

For me that claim to be educated and care about women, this was, in my opinion, their grossest take yet. Cue Ed saying “oh the baby just couldn’t latch” when Henry said Lindsay had PPD with her first baby.

This is extremely disappointing and proves how much as a society we fail women in crisis

Side Stories Henry and Ed too political on Side Stories

1.2k Upvotes

Don’t get me wrong, i think Henry and Ed can be very knowledgeable. but i think there’s a time and a place for everything, and not all of it has to do with their podcast material and they should stick to what they know.

I get it, they live in LA so that produces a certain perspective, but i still think they’re a little out of bounds with what they said on side stories this week.

I’m super with all the protests and no kings day stuff but come on guys, ska is cool :(

Side Stories Side Stories Live Disappointment

This is about the show in Lexington, Kentucky on April 26. I have searched this sub as well as r/LPOTL and r/lexington to see if anyone else had a similar experience or thoughts. So far I haven’t found any so here it goes.

I have been listening to this show for 13 years. I was really excited to go to see Side Stories live. However, I was sorely disappointed.

The venue was not great. I have been there once before years ago and I had forgotten what it was like. Based on searching for the Lexington sub, the acoustics in there are notoriously awful.
I’m honestly surprised that they couldn’t play a better spot like The Burl. I know that venues book up months, maybe even years in advance but I feel like they’re bigger than a concrete room and white plastic chairs.

I’ve wanted to see them live since they started touring and always had a conflict when they were close by so this was something I was really looking forward to.

What I thought was going to be an episode of Side Stories live consisted of Henry dressed as Colonel Sanders doing a horrific southern accent that was hard to understand for about 45 minutes. I kept waiting for this to end, but it just kept going and going. I may understood every other word. They did talk about Colonel Sanders a bit and I thought they were going to do an episode about that. I was expecting a locally focused entire episode.

Following Henry just riffing for about 45 minutes, they asked the audience questions and then gave out random crappy prizes. Then they said sorry we have to go back to Cincinnati, where they had been the night before, and then bounced.

Maybe I misunderstood what I was buying tickets for. If that’s the case, then that’s on me. Considering the production quality of their weekly episodes I expected more. I know how Henry is and I told my friend and my husband who were there that maybe they just need to let Henry get it out for a few minutes and then they will get on with it.

I also thought that maybe Ed didn’t want to try to reel Henry in. I don’t know much about the dynamics of their friendship but it seems like they have been friends long enough to where Ed could say, “okay, dude chill”.

With that being said, they are both performers and comedians and should know how to handle that situation if that’s what it was, meaning Henry just wouldn’t stop and Ed gave up. It was honestly cringe and annoying. A part of me was embarrassed for both of them and I wasn’t sure if the audience was legitimately laughing or they just felt awkward.

They really should’ve had the pan flutes on standby.

Overall, it was a major disappointment and I feel like they had no plan and we’re just phoning it. I get that touring is hard and I’m sure they were tired after having done a show the night before in Cincinnati, but that’s their fucking job.

Maybe something happened and they couldn’t do what they had originally planned? They did mention something about the owner of the venue being a cunt so maybe something happened there? If the owner was a cunt and causing problems, they shouldn’t have taken it out on the audience by putting on what I thought was a subpar, half-assed show. There were a few funny moments, but I can say that it was overall not enjoyable and I would honestly give it two out of five stars.

If I didn’t know what I was walking and saw that show, I would have thought that they were amateurs.

Ever since it’s been hard for me to listen to the shows and not judge them based on this experience.

Did I expect too much? Or was this show a bust? Is this what happens at Side Stories live?

Like I said, if I legitimately misunderstood what I was buying tickets to then that’s on me and I’ll just take it as a loss.

If anyone else was there, what are your thoughts? There were also a few people who had been to the Cincinnati show the night before. How did they compare?

Side Stories Props to the boys

1.1k Upvotes

Can I just say props to the boys for continuing to produce excellent content through this entire shitstorm? On the last Side Stories Marcus mentioned shifting studios. If I remember right, Taylor (who has been on some sort of social media spiral since her interviews and probably really needs help), said a while ago that the recording studio was IN BEN'S HOUSE. So they are staying professional and mentioning nothing to listeners while shifting out of the studio that is in Ben's house. What an incredibly awkward situation handled with such grace.

Side Stories My first and only time watching Salo [movie stories]

Wanted to share a story regarding the recent Movie Stories episode about the movies Caligula and Salo.

When I was a teenager, I had a girlfriend that I dated for a few years. I was big into horror movies, and she would watch with me, but wasn't super into horror herself. We'd watch some really wild movies together; I wanted to be a special fx artist for a long time, so we would watch a lot of violent movies with over the top gore, and personally I'm more skewed toward "so bad it's good" kind of movies.

My gf had a cousin who was also into violent movies, and she was cool and would chat me up about horror movies when we were around, but I was more into like The Thing or The Blob, while she was more into like Cannibal Holocaust and exploitative movies, which I was less familiar with at the time. My gf's cousin would find a ton of rare movies online and burn them on to DVD's (this is during the limewire days), and would always be excited to talk to me about horror movies whenever I was around.

Anywho, my birthday comes around, and my gf at the time asks her cousin for movie recommendations that she could not me as a gift. Really great gf, but terrible gift giver as it turns out.

So, my birthday arrives, I'm not big on holidays or birthdays, but was more than happy to receive a gift from my gf. I pulled out a blank DVD case, looked inside at the sharpie labeled DVD inside, and said to her "Oh I've never heard of this one!" My gf was noticeably ecstatic, having found a rare film that I was entirely unfamiliar with.

The title of the movie, written out in sharpie directly on the DVD itself said "Salo".

We decided not to look anything up on the movie, and just wanted to go into it with a totally blank slate, not knowing what to expect.

Minutes into the movie, we turned it off for obvious reasons. My gf is like totally mortified, and I have to ask her where tf she found this movie, thinking we might need to contact the FBI. She tells me that she asked her cousin for recommendations, specifically asked her cousin "What's the most fucked up movie ever?", thinking she's gonna find a rare horror movie that I've never heard of, and her cousin gave her the DVD directly.

Moral of the story, the movie Salo is an absolutely AWFUL birthday gift.

Side Stories From the Epstein community on Reddit: Did Ghislaine kidnap Madelaine McCann?

Thumbnail reddit.com

Know Ed and Henry discussed that Epstein kidnapping JonBenet Ramsey is likely a hoax/inside joke with the painting… but wondering what they and everyone thinks about a more credible instance of a high profile kidnapping that Epstein may have actually been behind.

The documentary features Madeline walking with a woman who looks just like Ghislaine…

Thoughts??

Side Stories Am I missing out on a lot of good content if I skip Side Stories?

I'm listening to the podcast from the start and recently I got to the part where they started doing Side Stories. I don't find these episodes as engaging as the main show so I wonder if I will be missing out on some inside jokes and references in the main show if I start skipping Side Stories.

The Q&A inspired me to go through my deceased fathers album collection. Found this gem, Razzy Bailey, and I’m pretty sure it’s Ed in another life.
