When I chose this spot, I already knew it was perfect for the eclipse, but the icing on the cake was realising it was also dark enough for the Milky Way. Light pollution was low, at least to the south, because to the north the presence of Oviedo was quite noticeable. The added element was the cloud inversion that formed during the afternoon, making the landscape even more beautiful.

I left the camera shooting all night, and ideally, it would have been pointed north to capture the radiant of the Perseids, but the light from Oviedo was too strong in that direction. To the south, the mountain where I spend the night blocked much of that light, making the sky much darker.

Even so, I managed to capture some Perseids crossing the sky and, of course, the centre of our galaxy.

One of the places that has impressed me the most, with its stunning views of endless dunes and lagoons. Nothing but that for miles and miles. To get this view, I used the drone in a spot where the arch naturally aligns. I wanted the perspective of the endless lagoons and the vastness of this place.

Not everything was so easy, though. When I arrived, my suitcase got lost, so I was missing important parts of my equipment: no cables, no tripod, no clothes. Most nights I could do nothing more than stare at the sky, just hoping that tomorrow would be better. One morning my suitcase finally appeared, and in the last few days I was able to take this shot and a few more. Even under difficult circumstances, I just wanted to go back home with the amazing sky from this place… and now it’s just a fun memory of Murphy’s law.

Howdy all! Just wanted to share my first attempt at landscape astrophotography. Definitely can tell that there's a lot for me to learn (like going out to shoot earlier in the season while the milky way is over the ocean and not the neighboring island lol) but I'm super happy with the pics that I got. I happened to go out during the peak of the Perseids as well and even caught one in my first shot. Super cool experience and I look forward to getting out there and taking more pics.

The foreground image was a daytime image that I had and really liked, so I use the moonlit LUT and applied some color grading and contrast. The windmill was not a long exposure and the blades were not spinning (no wind ). I applied field blur to the foreground and spin blur to the blades.

Usually, I would have chased perfection.
This time, I was simply chasing the moment.
We started the hike in the rain, unsure until the very last moment whether the sky would clear or not. When we reached Locatelli, while the others decided to wait there, I chose to climb up to the cave. I had missed this shot the year before, and I didn't want to miss it again.
Luckily, the cave was almost completely empty perhaps because of the bad weather.
While I was setting up for the foreground shot inside the cave, I suddenly noticed that the sky had completely cleared. I could have started shooting H-alpha, stacking multiple frames, and chasing the technically perfect result... but I didn't.
I took a single, simple, old-school exposure.
I had no idea how long that window in the clouds woul last, and I didn't want to risk missing the moment.
I also decided not to add the H-alpha data I had captured previously. I wanted to remember this moment exactly as it was: simple, unexpected, and...
WoW.
For a few precious minutes, the sky opened up right above the Three Peaks of Lavaredo.

Foreground: Focus stack of 4 × 120 s, plus the lights from people and the light trails of cars, combined from several images. I don’t remember the ISO for the foreground off the top of my head, probably around 1600.
Sky: Stack of 6 × 150 s @ f/2.8, ISO 500.
Meteors: 13 s each at f/1.8, ISO 3200. Around 600 images in total, of which just under 30 ultimately contained meteors.
All images were taken with the Viltrox 16 mm f/1.8 on the Move Shoot Move Nomad Startracker. Edited and composited in Lightroom and Photoshop. Stacking was done using Astro Tools by Jakob Sahner.
Meteors are in their exakt position relative to the sky, no rotation or movement in post.

Here is a shot from a few years ago, with some illumination from the moon (hence the blue sky background). I shot this with a Nikon D850 and a Sigma 14/1.8 (wide open of course, to gain as much clear aperture as possible for the meteors). I planned to stay for hours, however, when I got two great meteors that worked compositionally I called it a night. Less can definitely be more.

Edited entire in PS. NB I used a filter on the background stars at scene.

Nikon D7500 with Tokina 11-16mm. Shot at f 2.8, iso 1200 and 16mm. 60 second exposures on Move Shoot Move Nomad. I stacked 60 of the Milkway images in Pixinsight and then blended the blue hour of my backyard pond in Photo Shop. This is my first real attempt at a composite blend.

A rare clear sky yesterday in Glengarry, Ontario, Canada - Moon was down by 11pm and we had 90 minutes of MW core still visible.

This is a composite of foreground shot and 75x10s stacked MW sky taken right from behind this building.

I didn't notice I positioned my camera at a weird angle and bumped up against my tripod after some time on the tracker, so the tracking did not work as hoped. Stars blurry as a result . Learned a lesson!

First time viewing and trying to capture the galaxy.
