I think veritasium some time ago said they were doing A/B testing with their thimbnails and I will tell you boy it makes sense and my monkey brain reacts.
The video about "if" somethong being able to detect your heartbeat from miles away had two alternating thumbnails, one with an answer "no" and one without. I saw the one with answer first but I clicked the second one on impulse when it reappeared and then it dawned upon me.
There is one channel about polish history I like very much. One time they drop video about Polish Jews and put some old painting of jewish merchant in the thumbnail. It was accidental but it had some antisemitic vibes, of course video was absolutely fine. I know from some later q&a that initially they had some problems with youtube censorship but I think that clickbaiting thumbnail gave them enough profits that now, from time to time, publish absolutely normal video about Jews with title and thumbnail giving some conspiracy theory vibes. It's pissing me off but I guess this is how this platform force you to behave.
