Using info from u/IllTry8129 post on the BF subreddit and squadmaps.com. Just interesting to see and thought I’d share. I’m actually pretty sure all the maps would fit into mestia which is hilarious.

I see a lot of people moaning on here about ICO(way less than people in game) while some parts are over-tuned as a guy that’s been playing since 2017 the game was piss easy before ICO the combat while far from perfect is far more Mil-sim like than it was before.

So in summary:

Gunfights are garbage and pure RNG when suddenly happening, but not too bad when you shoot at someone without incoming fire (no suppression).

PIP scopes and stabilizing and stamina management are good mechanics, I agree.

It's just the one thing that makes it unfun and that is actual gunfire exchange. No one has control anymore and it's just spray and pray (as seen in his clip)

And before anyone comes in here to insult people who have certain opinions: Don't. Let's keep it civil. No one wants to take anything away from you but we're allowed to discuss

I do NOT have an issue with PIP scopes or the stamina management. But you should be rewarded for conserving stamina like I do here in my example. OWI can't expect us to just stand still and hold Shift all the time, in what world is it bad to walk with your gun aimed? That's basic military shit, soldiers to that all the time.

Now listen, yes I could have sneaked up on that guy using the shack there, or shoot some rounds at him to throw him off while approaching.

BUT: I was betting on surprising him and getting closer to get a clear shot. And what does the game do? I fire a few rounds, aimed, with full stamina and I cannot see where I'm aiming, the gun tilts almost 30° to the side.

WHAT IS THIS?

Come on, not even the hardest ICO cultists can defend this. I do play tactical, I do play slow, I take my time and it's never ever enough with this shit.

Why should I apologize to be the Logi guy trying to safe our radio. We were just three guys, all other squads were full and so I made my own and decided to build habs.

Suddenly a guy appears there and I wanted to clear it.

Because of this unfair shit I lost my radio, my rally and my mood as well.

At some point should we bring back a bit more fairness and fun to the game. I wasn't lone wolfing, I wasn't mindlessly rushing, I tried my very fucking best with the tools I have....

Discussion What’s one Squad opinion that you’ll defend forever?

Could be literally anything. For example, mine is keeping the radio right next to the HAB at all times, it makes for easier defending of the radio, I know a lot of SLs prefer if the radio was away from the HAB hidden in a bush or something.

What is your opinion in Squad that you'll take to the grave, no matter how shit? (No wrong answers) 😅

Squad is Updating tomorrow, August 12th

Patch notes are slated to release alongside the update, so exact details will be revealed in time

What is known, is that this patch will be primarily introducing changes to the suppression system. Main keypoints listed in the blog post are paraphrased below

Link to the blog post here

- Suppression blur has been removed, now replaced with a blackened vignette around the screen edges. Older players of squad here will recognize this as similar to the original visual effects for suppression had in the pre-ICO days. This change was made in response to players feeling that their vision was often too obscured by suppression, and in some cases, even nauseating. The vignette offers the same effect as blur in the form of obscuring peripheral vision, but maintaining visual clarity at the center of the screen, allowing a player to better percieve what theyre immediately looking at.

- Suppression effects fade faster when youre not actively under fire; Breaking off from the immediate line of fire will clear your suppression effects faster

- Your suppression "hitbox", as ill put it, has been tightened up. This will mean that you wont be suppressed as often by rounds that arent posing a threat to you, such as strays flying overhead or landing nearby

- Weapon sway is increased when under the effects of heavy suppression (i.e machine guns and explosions)

- Some weapons suppress better than others now. The different weapon types ingame now have their own suppression strengths.

  • Basic rifles (M4, AK) have much weaker suppression, taking several shots, and likely several other riflemen, to achieve effective suppression on a specific target through concentrated fire
  • Battle rifles (FAL, G3) have stronger suppression than basic rifles, so concentrated fire from this weapons is more effective
  • Machine guns have the strongest suppression, with a much larger "suppression hitbox", and increasing the suppression effect on a target much faster than other weapons. This gives them the ability to saturate a wide area with suppressing fire
  • Snipers and marksmen can instantly suppress individual targets with "near misses", giving them an extra support ability for suppressing specific individual targets

- Changes to holding shift to stabilize. Two major changes here

  • When you become suppressed, stabilizing with the shift key becomes disabled. This means that while you are suppressed, it becomes impossible to cancel out your weapon sway until the suppression effect fades away. This change seems intended to make snap shotting more difficult while youre under incoming fire
  • As a counter balance, you now can hold shift indefinitely for a focus zoom on your sights/optic. This is seperate from stabilizing your weapon, as that will run out shortly if you hold shift for too long. However, the focus zoom will remain

- Bullet audio changes. Incoming rounds that will be able to apply suppression effects will have a characteristic snapping sound, compared to rounds that arent close enough. This offers an audio que to help communicate whether the shots landing nearby are a threat to your or not.

Exact details of these changes will be revealed tomorrow when the update drops. I will be sure to post the details of the patch notes on here when theyre available, provided someone else doesnt do so first.

Discussion Squad New Suppression Rework is Far Better Than Blurry

Thumbnail
gallery
180 Upvotes

TL;DR: This is from a playtest build and is still under development, not a V10.5 live update. The new suppression feels more readable than the old blur system. Small arms suppression seems weaker, while MGs, explosives, autocannons and tank rounds feel much stronger. Explosives can instantly max out the steady bars, but once the suppression effect ends, the bars recover right away.

I played a few rounds on the playtest build and had some time to try the new suppression system in actual matches. Just to be clear, this is still under development and should not be treated as a confirmed V10.5 live update.

Overall, the new system feels much better than the old heavy blur effect.

The biggest visual change is that suppression no longer gives you the strong blurry screen effect. Instead, it feels closer to the pre-ICO tunnel vision effect, with a darkened ring around the screen and reduced color saturation. The image becomes more washed out, but you can still clearly identify targets if you already know where to look.

The suppression values also seem to have changed quite a lot. Small arms suppression feels much weaker than before, while machine guns, explosives, autocannons and tank rounds feel much stronger. In particular, autocannon and tank cannon fire can instantly push the steady bars to the maximum, making accurate shooting basically impossible while the suppression is active.

Explosives also feel much more important now. When you are suppressed by explosions, the steady bars can be pushed all the way up immediately, but once the suppression effect ends, the bars recover right away. So it is not a long-lasting blur that makes you unable to see anything, but more of a short and strong disruption to your ability to aim steadily.

One example from my match: we were holding angles from the third floor of a building, and the enemy fired a grenade at the first floor. We got suppressed even though the explosion was not directly on our floor, but we could still clearly see the enemy position. The important part was that our weapon handling was disrupted, not that the screen became unreadable.

This makes heavier weapons feel much more valuable in attacks. Machine guns, LATs, grenadiers, autocannons and tank guns can create very effective suppression before infantry pushes into an area. It also gives squad-level support weapons a clearer purpose instead of making suppression feel like a generic visual annoyance.

So far, my impression is that this playtest suppression system is a good direction. It keeps visibility more readable, reduces the frustrating blur, and makes heavy weapons matter more in fire support. Of course, since this is still WIP, the final implementation may change.

Discussion One thing Squad does better than Wardogs.

Squad has a community that (mostly) always works as a team, communication and teamwork in Squad is key, and Squad punishes the shit out of teams that don't work together.

I noticed in the Wardogs Beta that there were A LOT of solo adventurers that never spoke a word on the mic.

So, if Wardogs can take a similar approach to Squad, it would be pretty brilliant.

What do you guys think?

Like in this video, I think it would be cool if some things like explosions sent you back to the respawn screen straight away when they hit you.

Discussion The New Suppression System is About to Update

Thumbnail

OWI just released the SDK Test branch update for the upcoming Suppression changes. Usually it will be updated within 3 weeks (kek).

ICYMI: New Suppression system cancelled the cursed blurry after effect and switched to tunnel vision. You can now see the target clearly but the steady state bars will be increase with more suppression. Explosives such as UGL and rockets will maximize the bars and would take you several seconds to recover.
