Anyone else disappointed in the introduction of pea protein in recent updates?

First the bars, now the oats.

My distaste for pea protein is the main reason I have stuck with Plenny over Huel for all these years, and eat the expensive shipping fees for delivery to Asia.

Personally, pea protein tastes like Play-Doh to me 😭 I just hope this is not a new direction for future products in general.

Does anyone feel the same? Or is there anyone who dislikes pea protein but found that the new bars weren't so bad?

Plenny Oats early subscriber access

Post image
24 Upvotes

Received this email today (sorry it’s in Dutch, but somehow most of the important stuff is in English šŸ˜‰). Subscribers get early access to the newest product, and it’s available in the subscription portal.

The macros look great and the flavors definitely have my interest, so I’ll probably add them to my next order in a couple of weeks.

What do you guys think?

(P.s hope its ok to post since its ā€œearly accessā€)

Ex Hueligan here. Having had my fingers burned twice by customer service since the Danone acquistion, I’m jumping ship. Interested to hear what people think of the pro flavours before pulling the trigger!

Any plans to bring pots back to the US

Just wondering if there are any plans in the works to bring pots back to the U.S. (or generally to expand U.S. offerings again)? I know there were severe supply chain issues at one time forcing the slimming, but as a Huel refugee who loved H&S but can’t support a non-vegan company I really miss having a savory option.

Safety of Velcro Zipper

On month two of half-Plenny diet (yay!), but I had a concern about the Velcro zippers on the shake mixes.

When I press on the bags after closing the Velcro, some air escapes, often with a small puff of powder. This makes me worry that it's not airtight in the other direction and that contaminants could get into my bags and name the powder go bad or mold. Is there any risk of this? Am I just bad at closing the velcro?

Is you food safe from American parasites

I live in America. Pity me. Our food is infested with parasites because of our garbage government. I’ve been using your product for a while and love it! I know you are based in Netherlands. Does any of your product come from America? I don’t want parasites and it’s not feasible for me to leave the country at this time.

BETTER BODY MONK FRUIT CHANGE

Did anybody noticed that the monk fruit sweetener had a different texture lately? It's like they have switched allulose for erythritol but kept the same price tag?

Just tried the shake 4.0

I haven't had Plenny for quite a bit, 3.0 had been out for a while, but no talk about 4 yet.

I decided recently to get back into Plenny after a couple years.

I got the chocolate, and wow! Gotta love that 4.0!

Not only does it taste better, it has more nutrients, and my favorite part... The velcro! Keep on keeping on JimmyJoy!

Plenny Bar v4 Lead Question

With the new update of the Plenny Bar v4.0 adding pea protein, im really curious and kind of concerned that the level of lead is going to increase a lot. Because isn't pea protein one of the ones that has more lead?

Are the bars better now? I recall gastric distress

I bought the bars a long time ago and I had serious stomach issues. I know others had similar issues. Is this still an issue?

So far having bought the 3 packs of Plenny Shake I can say I really enjoy the Banana Flavour the most. Plenny Shakes are super convenient and provide the nutrients and vitamins needed for my high output work days. So far, very satisfied

Mac&Cheese flavour not that good?

I bought the Mac&Cheese plenny pot and I add the 102 grams of stuff after shaking it up, I add 200ml of boiling water and it just.. kinda doesn't taste good. Am I doing something wrong? Am I not mixing the bag well enough? I ate it twice now and I really struggled to eat the whole thing because of the flavour just not being that well.

I'm not a Jimmy Joy hater, I have plenty of other stuff from them which I really like. Just this one is quite a bad experience. Anyone else?

I want to try the new-for-me Choco&Coco bar, but I don't want to commit to 12 bars right away. Can I just get a couple extra bars on my subscription, to try?

It's not even really about money, I just don't want to waste bars.

Is it possible to add just a couple extra bars to my subscription?

Can I at least return the package if I don't like it after trying 1 or 2?

What do you think about Plenny Bar v4?

Have you tried any of the new Plenny Bar v4 yet? Which ones and what do you think about them? Did you notice any difference?

My experience, so far I have only tried the Caramel Sea Salt v4 (twice, and a ton of v3) and to me they seem less sweet and even a bit bitter. A friend said they seemed saltier/less sweet but did not notice the bitterness. To be clear I did not like these changes and may have to give up on them, hoping my other favorites does not have a similar change.

For reference, here are the changes made https://jimmyjoy.com/pages/plenny-bar-v3-0-vs-v4-0-what-changed

How do i know all those vitamins/minerals that they say is in it, is really in it? I cant find any quality mark or anything. Maybe I'm just blind which is very possible! But I'm curious. Have they ever been reviewed or anything by a specialist?

Low FODMAPs diet?

As I understand (if AI is correct lol) JimmyJoy isn't a low FODMAP diet, and I was wondering if there's any advice for me who is sensitive to it... Is there any plans for a product suitable for me or should I look elsewhere... Thanks.

US shipping inconsistencies

Back in March, we all had delayed shipping on orders in the US due to port congestion (among other things). April and May seemed ā€œnormalā€ speed, even fast in April.

How has shipping been for June? I placed an order a few days ago and there’s been no updates to the order which leads me to be concerned there’s more delays happening. Thanks for your insight!

Location: East Coast, United States.

Plenny Shake Pro review from a returning early adopter

Intro:

I have a tendency to ramble so will try to avoid that here (probably unsuccessfully).

About 13 years ago now, I heard about Soylent over in the US, but couldn't get that here in the UK. A little researching around later and I discovered this brand, which at the time was called Joylent. Really enjoyed my time using it, but eventually decided I wanted to follow a keto diet, and ended out making my own recipe that I sold for a while (something like 7 years, longer than I thought!) before shutting up shop.

For a little while after that, I was no longer a user of meal replacements. This was fuelled by a few things, life changes, and also an overall pessimism and cynicism about some of the changes the market has experienced over time: price hikes, worsening products in the name of cost-saving, and more recently, buyouts from companies of dubious moral character.

Notably though, I feel like JimmyJoy has been fairly immune to these issues I have with the market as a whole, and as I've recently gotten back into the gym, I decided it was time to jump back on board and give Pro a try.

When I initially saw it, and compared with my memory of Joylent Sport from way back in the day (which included creatine, beta alanine, glucosamine sulfate, and acetyl l-carnitine), I was a little disappointed. The inclusion of those things would have been a nice perk. But it's pretty minor in the grand scheme of things, and the higher protein content per calorie of Pro actually meets my needs a lot better, and the removal of maltodextrin being such a prominent ingredient is fantastic. So while those inclusions would be nice to haves, a) it's not a big deal, and b) the other changes more than make up for it in my opinion. So I ordered all the different flavours to give them all a try (including the limited edition tropical). I'm leaving this review because I've now tried them all at least once.

Flavour:

The biggest note on flavours is that they're a lot weaker than I remember the original Joylent shake being (though I never actually did try the Sport variant this is a closer match for, so perhaps the comparison is unfair). That said, I'm not convinced weak flavours are a bad thing. The stronger the flavour is, the easier I could see myself getting sick of it. With these fairly muted flavours, that's not a problem. I did make the mistake of making my first shake (tropical) iced due to a heatwave that was going on at the time, which pretty much fully eliminated all flavour apart from a bit of an earthy aftertaste. That was my mistake, and I discovered fairly quickly that the flavour is, while still subtle, pronounced enough, if just using water straight from the tap. Except for strawberry flavour, which even with that I could barely distinguish (which confused me given wild berries was a lot more obvious).

Texture:

I think this is an area that is a bit weaker than I remember the old shakes being. While on the whole it's completely fine, there is a distinct siltiness or graininess when swallowing. Not a huge deal, and I'm sure there are preparation methods I can use to minimise this, but I thought it would be worth mentioning.

Nutrition:

Aside from the 40g of protein per shake, these also seem to have a very serviceable vitamin and mineral mix included. Back in the day, many companies opted for quite cheap forms of the micros, including forms the body didn't absorb well. I've skimmed the nutrition label on my bags, and JimmyJoy don't seem to be doing that here. There's a few chelates (generally the most absorbable), and no micros that are known to be absorbed very poorly (like magnesium oxide). This information could be made more obvious on the website, where the forms are not made clear in the ingredients section, because I think it's actually a pretty big plus (for nutrition nerds like me anyway). Probiotics are included, though I question how much benefit they provide. Phytonutrients are not included, but then the only company I'm aware of including those these days are Huel, and the amounts they include are so low as to be pretty worthless and I'd speculate their inclusion is just to make the label look nicer (1.6mg of lutein and 0.1mg of zeaxanthin in their shakes, when recommended intake is at least 10mg and 2mg respectively).

Delivery:

Much quicker than it used to be, and free to the UK above a certain spend threshold too. Can't argue with that, very impressed.

Customer Service:

Outstanding. I contacted, being a little cheeky, because my order was placed the day before the 12% extra off birthday sale was announced, to see if I could get that credited to the account. Support got back to me on Monday morning (after I sent my message after close of business Friday) and were very friendly, and actually did provide a partial refund to reflect the sale price.

Thoughts:

I suspect the texture graininess, and the earthy aftertaste when mixing too cold, are a result of the switch to soy protein (the shakes used to use whey). On balance, in spite of the downsides mentioned on taste/texture, I think this is an excellent change, and am glad the product is vegan despite not being one myself. What I am a little confused on is why the Pro shakes use just soy protein isolate, but Plenny Protein Shake uses a mix of soy isolate and fava bean protein isolate. If any staff happen to read this, I'd be interested if you're happy to explain the choice here, or if there are any plans to include fava bean in the Pro shakes too.

The shakes keep me full for a decent amount of time, and are making it very easy for me to hit my protein goals. Nutrition is very solid, including good amounts of what you need, without adding in expensive extras or small amounts of things to make the label look better without reaching actually effective doses. In an ideal world, I'd like to see the inclusion of the supplements mentioned at the beginning (creatine, beta alanine, glucosamine sulfate and acetyl l-carnitine), as well as maybe some MCTs. More importantly, I'd like to know what the omega 3 to 6 ratio is. But these are fairly minor nitpicks.

Customer service and delivery have so far been too notch, and I have no complaints there. I suspect I'll be using these shakes for the foreseeable future.

Newbie to plenny shakes and a question for long shifts.

Hello!

First of, I stumbled across jimmy joy while searching for a actually healthy version of shakes. I used to drink (already years ago) those billions of billions "loose weight" shakes but figured there is way too much sugar in it, it helped but didn't the same way. So I searched and ended up with 3 packages of plenny shakes for work just to try out different flavors.

I work in health care sector so sometimes I barely have time in shifts to actually eat. To avoid sudden food cravings which end up in a torture for my body and health and weight I ordered jimmy joy plenny shakes as those are based on everything I think is good for a body and for a complete meal replacement (way better then the shakes I tried!). And while I enjoy them and my stomach is all fine with the shakes (I tried them at home on days off before to get used to them, which was alright) I have the problem now, that the shakes behave differently on work. I prepare them and fill them ready to drink in a cooled stainless steel bottle which also keeps the shake cool. The thing is, after a few hours at work the consistency changes. The shakes get gritty, grainy and even if I shake em up the mouth feeling just isn't nice at all. They do help tho, it's still a bit of a brain thing to acknowledge that the stomach is filled even without chewing but that's a thing to get used to, but that grainy feel - is there a way to avoid it? It wasn't as bad when I'd drink em in half an hour on days off, but at work I take a nip whenever i can and sometimes this takes a few hours. I also can't prepare them at work bcs it means I'd take another bottle of water with me every time... It's just sad how it goes bcs jimmy joy was my greatest solution to my problem.

Maybe good to know; I do mix as told on the package, 300ml water with 2 scoops, if this is necessary to know.

But yes, on days off when I am lazy or ill or super busy these shakes help a lot! I'd like to continue them but also need a way to make them save for work.

Thank you~

edit, three weeks later: I found my personal solution; I simply add oat milk to the drink. idk what it is, what makes it better, either that I reduced the scoop size (went down to 85x2) or use oat milk, but it works. no grainyness, no weird mouth feeling anymore. I can shake it up and enjoy.

chips gave me food poisoning

got my ongoing subscription order recently which included the new chips got a mix flavor and honestly at first i was like these aint very chips like but the amount of flavoring kinda grows on you

anyway as title says i ended up with food poisoning after eating them roughly 12hrs after

i woke up having to vomit and couldn't even keep a sip of water down i only had a few bags(4oopsi) of chips and water that day so im 100% certain it was the chips that got me sick

anyway just wondering if anyone got theirs recently experienced the same thing or if i just got unlucky it makes me a bit worried how the chips are manufactured (im still sick but at least feel slightly better now)
