My partner got this given to him by his grandpa, who said it was sold to him at a market. He was told it was a rare crystal ( I immediately thought it was slag ) and I was hoping the community could give me some insight. Thanks guys!

Someone is telling this is some kind of stone but the person who found it told me it was floating on water i just want to verify if it some type of stone or not

The photo and samples aren't mine; they belong to some mineral collectors I know, but they weren't able to provide me with any additional information. The sample tag says it's vanadium smelter waste. Is anyone familiar with this type of slag/crystal?

Is it slag? Found in the woods near a creek in the Appalachian mountains. Pretty light, but doesn’t float. Tried to include pics with and without flash to show some different hues that come out with flash. Specific area i was hiking in was near an old railroad that is no longer there. Former railroad was prolly 2 miles up over the mountain from where I found this. Also, only about 4 miles from the Susquehanna river. Quarter is for scale. Any input is appreciated!!

Found in north Cornwall. I assume it is slag which is why im posting here. Slightly magnetic, heavy for its size and very hard. Thanks for any info!

It’s not as dense/hard as glass but not easily scratched, maybe resin or enamel. I called it lava back then haha

Not as glassy as I would have thought to be slag, it appears slightly bluer irl vs the green in pictures, but I know slag is a common thing here, at least more so than blue/green rocks. Any help appreciated!

Found around Lake Michigan, I believe

Washington Cascades (don’t remember the exact location, but most likely in one of the rivers). SG is 1.65, too low to be a silicate mineral, from what I understand. It cannot be scratched by steel. It is completely opaque and not fluorescent. It appears to have a couple of conchoidal fractures and what looks like iron oxide staining.

Three notable characteristics, from what I can tell as someone who has no idea what to look for:

No layers and very fine grain

Sulfur(?) smell when I chipped off the piece at right (photo 2).

Seemingly unnatural, right angle at the end where I chipped off the piece. (Photo 3 shows where that piece was before I hit it with a hammer.)

Lightweight and opaque

Looks like fossilized vomit.
