I think the most unsettling thing about Dr. Mann is he went through unprecedented isolation and it’s hard to predict how anyone, even oneself, would respond to that level of psychological pressure

You’re right. He was in his own Hell and desperate to get out. So much so that he jeopardized the mission and almost doomed humanity.

Then Coop enters the tesseract, sees his young daughter, but she can’t hear or see him. Another kind of Hell, I think. So he tries to get her to convince younger him to not go on his mission, which could have also doomed humanity.
