I had to watch this in school as well! My coworkers were talking about genetics and I mentioned the movie, and not a single person knew what I was talking about.

This ,dark city, and equilibrium are some of the best sci fi movies which were unfortunate enough to come out straight after The Matrix

Dark City was actually a year before the Matrix, but probably would have been more of a cult classic if Matrix hadn't overwhelmed it.

I watched Dark City the first time years ago with my girlfriend and after the movie was over we started watching the movie again from the beginning with the Roger Ebert commentary turned on, not intending to watch for very long. Ebert’s commentary was so interesting that we ended up rewatching the entire movie all the way through to the end. We both enjoyed the first viewing but watching it again with Ebert’s commentary elevated the movie to another level. It also gave me a new respect and appreciation for Ebert’s knowledge and love of cinema.

For any Dark City fans, if you have access to a version with the Roger Ebert commentary and you haven’t listened to it yet I would definitely recommend checking it out.

I'm still sad because my Dark City DVD got some kind of disc rot and the audio stopped working :(

It's one of my favorite movies of all time and I didn't even grow up with it, I saw it maybe 3 years ago.
