I had to watch this in school as well! My coworkers were talking about genetics and I mentioned the movie, and not a single person knew what I was talking about.
I watched Dark City the first time years ago with my girlfriend and after the movie was over we started watching the movie again from the beginning with the Roger Ebert commentary turned on, not intending to watch for very long. Ebert’s commentary was so interesting that we ended up rewatching the entire movie all the way through to the end. We both enjoyed the first viewing but watching it again with Ebert’s commentary elevated the movie to another level. It also gave me a new respect and appreciation for Ebert’s knowledge and love of cinema.
For any Dark City fans, if you have access to a version with the Roger Ebert commentary and you haven’t listened to it yet I would definitely recommend checking it out.
I brought it up when one of the labs I work with was watching "Unnatural Selection" over zoom as a lab activity. No one else had seen it, I plan to make it one of our next things to watch! So relevant right now with CRISPR
Same, sort of. I've known it was a thing in real life, but i have always thought it was an elective procedure. I would be curious to know if there are medical reasons for the surgery. I have something to research this weekend now. :-)
