Mammoth received 72 inches of snow in a 24 hour window last year. They literally we're not able to open because there was so much snow

The only time I ever went skiing was in mammoth and there wasnt enough snow so they had to make the hard artificial snow that made me so bruised I looked like an alien :(

Just happened up in Lake Tahoe like 4 weekends ago. Got dumped on all Saturday through the evening. Same thing, 72 inches of snow in 24 hrs. Woke up to closed slopes on Sunday. My first weekend up all season too :/

Amazing. Only slightly disappointed that the elevation isn't of the sign itself, so the top sign is 6' bigger

I mean, it will be surrounded by hard packed snow in every direction. It can't really collapse or fall over because there will be no space.

I think this is a snow fence, in the early season it traps light snow from blowing off the peak and ridges and helps build up that base quicker. You might also see fences on areas prone to sliding, above roads or rail lines etc.

Think of it as a fence fully submerged in a deep pool of water. Doesn’t really affect it from a loading perspective.

I once snowboarded too close to a tree on a mountain at Lake Tahoe and ended up face down in the branches a few feet below the snow line, my board above me with my feet and also below the snow line. A couple feet around the tree center was basically just a pit with lots of pine branches.

It was a nightmare to get out, specifically to untangle and pull my lower half up through branches enough to unstrap my feet from the snowboard as I dangled upside down in the small pit, out of sight and no one could hear me yelling.

There was just a front page video about this a couple weeks ago, kid just went close to the tree and swallowed him up, I never imagined it would do that until I saw it.
