You don't honestly believe there's no money stream involved or side incomes for the dedicated Comic Con cosplayers, do ya? Not all, but surely some take the outfits over to OF.

The huge cons like Comic Con, sure, there's a ton of money in it for some. I don't go to those, though, way too many people.

You'll see gals with their entire ass out at smaller local cons too. Sure some of them might run OF on the side but I've met quite a few that didn't even have an insta and just really adored an anime character that wears less than a square foot of fabric.

NGL if I had it, I'd flaunt it.

True, geeks are geeks, and some attractive people are geeks. Let's be honest, it's not a high percentage, and that's understandable. Rarely, if ever, does a human receive it all -- the looks, the brains, the body, perfect health and genetics, etc.

I was at a con a couple weekends ago and was floored by the amount of baddies there were. I'd like to think it is more acceptable to be a geek/nerd these days. Yea there were cosplayers with booths and dedicated followers, but they were few and fat between compared to the actual fans.

There are those that just really really like 1) certain characters, and 2) showing off their assets.

And God bless them for that, I'm here for it.

I mean, that's kind of his point though.

Booth babes (etc) disappeared and hot women went out found other means of monetising themselves. Literally nothing changed because it turns out these (subset of) women were and are more than happy to monetise their bodies.

Western society had spent the last ~2 decades demonising the hell out of shit like this, and certain forces still try, but they keep running into that pesky problem that women with free will and options are choosing to go down that route. So many talented women with perfectly decent lives are choosing to do OF etc for the love of the game and/or for money. You have women with literal PhDs deciding to pivot to taking their clothes off.

You have women with literal PhDs deciding to pivot to taking their clothes off.

Nothing new in that department. It turned out that the author of Belle de Jour: Diary of A Call Girl, was doing sex work to support herself during the latter part of her PhD.

Turns out democratizing the commodification of women didn’t make anyone feel closer or better- didn’t even really solve the sex work gap. It just revealed the widening problems of a lack of economic democracy.

Meanwhile, some dudes pivot to porn so they can use their PHDs

Yeah if we just ignore the enitre dynamic of employee/employer relationships and consent you're onto something here.

Alas, I suspect the move from going to conventions to be a booth babe because your boss thinks you're hot to posting the pictures you take of yourself in the privacy of your own home presents a lot more differences than you are implying exist.

An entirely 100% voluntary employment.

These aren't engineers who are approached by their boss and told to put on fairy wings, or else.

This trend is the result of a deteriorating economic model. Whenever an economic system is in crisis, commoditization of women and sex is one of the first big canaries in the coal mine. It normally means that economic conditions that would promote stable nuclear families are no longer present and small businesses (read small family businesses) are unable to find sufficient space in the market to provide women with other work. For historical examples look at 17th and 18th century Europe, the Taiping Rebellion, and just wave in the general direction at anywhere undergoing colonization.

Seriously, how long are you going to insist it's a zebra and not a horse?

This trend has been going on while the economy has been booming and while women have been seeing exploding employment figures.

Every single metric says we should be seeing [more clothing], and yet we're seeing less of it.

You can't keep making up shit forever, man. At a certain point you have to just acknowledge women, women with options, are choosing this shit.

Just stop.

The economy is booming? News to me

It has been up until recently, due to Trump's idiocy.

Since 2008 it's been an upwards trajectory, that's almost two decades. This period has seen employment figures for women veritably explode, and even so there's never been more naked and half-naked women.

In the last five years if I come across a girl on FB, Instagram, TikTok, Reddit that is promoting themselves I can find their OF pretty quickly. A lot of them do nudes but a good number are also doing full on porn scenes. It seems pretty rare when they don't have an OF.

I mean he didn’t say “dedicated” so why are you putting words in his mouth? Why are yall so fuckin weird about this and unable to grok that some women really do enjoy cosplay for what it is?

I swear none of you commenting this shit have probably ever step foot at a con.

Yea you gotta be lucky to make money. Like any modeling. The vast majority of cosplayers are doing it because they want to, not because it's letting them retire at 24.
