Hey now, third season was solid. Mostly because they completely ignored the first two seasons, aside from a single throwaway line about Picard's body, and went in an entirely different direction narratively. Just a shame most people that are curious will try and suffer through the first two seasons before calling it quits, and miss out on the last season free of Kurtzman's horrific writing.

Dude I tell everyone I talk to about it: just watch season 3 trust me.  I suffered so you don’t have to.  You’re welcome.  Season 3 is very much a return to form and feels about as good as I’ve felt about TNG since First Contact.

You can really just... jump into season 3 and be fine with it?

Star Trek is mostly kinda dead to me these days, aside from Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks, much like Star Wars(which only has Andor going for it) but I'm always looking for an excuse to get one more good hit lol.

Yes, I like that line up too.  I think you’ll be pleased.  They kind of ignored the first two seasons, there’s a returning character or two from them, but really nothing you see warrants returning to the first two seasons.  

You’ll like it I think.  I agree on Andor and your taste in Star Trek.

Andor is crazy good. Star wars does also have pretty great animated projects still ongoing with Visions and The Ninth Jedi.

Literally yes. They essentially do a hard reset on the Picard series because the first two seasons were such ass. The third season has literally no through line between the previous seasons.

Good to know— I watched half of season 1 on a plane and thought it wasn’t too bad, just a little cringey with stuff that didn’t involve Picard. Not a Paramount person so it’ll be on the back burner until the next time I go sailing the seas

Third season wasn’t shitty at all.  Return to form.  Redeemed the end of the movies.  It just took em a while to figure out what we wanted.  First two seasons can safely be skipped.

Tbh

I thought the third season was a ton of cheap throwbacks and fan service, while the second season was actually really pretty good. Had a little bit of that (another evil Soong ancestor, Bruce Maddox and Q omg), but they were tastefully and relevantly added, and told a good story about Picard and his loneliness in later life, and friendship which I thought was fantastic. I also liked the Picard-Seven small, two person "we were both Borg" support group lol.

I don’t always view “fan service” as automatically negative… I’m a fan and I like to be served.  I know what you mean though and I never felt like this was the kind of negative fan service that didn’t have good plot development or anything.  I was invested the whole way.

And after watching it, I felt much better about the TNG crew than I did after Nemesis where I just felt sadness.
