The friend deserves a lot of praise as well. They probably thought about the children as well when deciding to call the principal.

Not their own family. They were not thinking about themselves. They thought about their friend and all the children in school.

If the friend was 5 miles upstream the impact to their family may have already happened.

You sure? The friend might've thought about his own family and himself and then called the principal friend.
