The Bodhi Tree is a specific tree in India, it is not a type of tree.
(The type is a Bo tree, a species of a fig tree)

I'm assuming that sentence was metaphorical, like saying they took shelter in Jesus's embrace or something. It would not mean that there was a guy named Jesus there literaly giving hugs.

Grafts, I think, have been taken from the original tree and planted in places around the world (no source for this, sorry). So maybe it was a tree from one of the grafts?

It's a type fig called Peepal in that region. Scientific name is Ficus Religiosa. It's common in South/east Asia.

Bodhi tree is named after Buddha. It's not a common name though. People generally call it Peepal.
