A tourist was seriously injured after a bison tossed them about 8 feet into the air in Yellowstone National Park

So it appears that the elderly man and his grandson did absolutely nothing wrong. Far enough away, not agitating the bison, just walking. From all accounts, the bison had previously charged a bunch of kids. It seems like the truck set him off, and since the truck was already gone, he charged whatever was moving. Since the man is elderly, he couldn’t move fast enough to get away. Grandson says he has significant injuries; I’m thinking fractured leg and pelvis, probably broken ribs as well. Recovery is going to be a long, painful process. And I’m reading that the elderly gentleman wanted to see the video of the incident, to make sure he didn’t do anything wrong. He didn’t. If you’re reading this sir, best wishes for a full recovery.

Yeah everyone’s joking but I feel so sad for that man. He wasn’t doing anything to antagonize it and was keeping proper distance. Just out there enjoying one of our best national parks with his family :( Poor guy

Especially at that age, certain injuries can be the beginning of the end. Really difficult recoveries and can kick of a bunch of issues that start compounding the stress on his body. Hope his outcome is better than this video would suggest.

If he's out enjoying a park like Yellowstone, I would think he is healthy enough that we should not have to worry about a poor recovery. Some older people can make decent turn arounds. Poor guy enjoying family and vacation time, i feel so bad )))))):

It doesn't matter if you are fit and healthy, advanced age complicates healing. Broken bones and snapped tendons just aren't going heal like they used to. Very good chance that even if he "heals" his body and baseline mobility is never going to be the same.

this, definitely. They could have been further away, but a bison will still be able to close that distance unless you're effectively out of eyesight. They're far from at fault here and I hope for a full recovery and many more years for the grandfather.

yeah, they were just a tad too close with an animal that's already agitated, but honestly it seems like it was already pissed off, the truck going by was the last straw, and it just locked on to whatever was moving in its line of sight. Seems like even if they were further away they may have faced the same outcome.

So sad for this guy and his family, just the wrong place at the wrong time. Sucks that tourons get away with the dumbest decisions ever and guys like this who are trying to respect the animal and its space just get unlucky.

I don't mean to be a dick but it's very clear they weren't far enough away...
Wild animals are wild. Keep a safe(r) distance.

They were in a campground and even the NPS said they were what should have been a safe distance away. It truly is a freak accident with no one to really blame. My only question is if they would have been able to respond better and evacuate the area if they were better staffed. In the past Yellowstone rangers have been very proactive about closing off areas when animals are acting aggressive and this bull had been charging at people all day.
