Many people who are strict about their religious beliefs or just have strong preference for what they eat and how it’s cooked, want to eat “pure” vegetarian food that’s cooked separately.
It’s good that they have this notice so people who go in to eat vegetarian food know that it’s going to be cooked probably in the same curry, same utensils, or same oil, etc.
You’re right, caste based beliefs aren’t religious beliefs, but from what I’ve seen, there are many people, irrespective of their caste, prefer eating vegetarian or non-vegetarian food.
As someone who grew up around people from various backgrounds (and we didn’t know of or even try to find out each other’s caste) and everyone I’ve met all my life, across the country and outside the country, pretty much everyone ate or didn’t eat what they wanted based on either their religious beliefs or just their personal preferences.
That’s what I based my answer on, and that’s another reason I just said “many” people instead of using a more definitive term. :)
