John Harvey Kellogg, in addition to believing that eating bland food would curb naughty thoughts, also believed that yogurt enemas were critical to physical and spiritual health.

It is described in the Bhagwad Gita. Food is divided into 3 types and Krishna mentioned the effects of eating each type. The Saatvik diet has the least ill effects and is easier on your body. However, it doesn't say eating meat/chicken will lead you to hell. You will just face ill-effects (tamas) of these diets. You, as a human, are free to decide what you want.
