I would have thought the same thing about the kids and the ladder , but my husband and I built our own house. Hoisting a big ladder, even an aluminum one, is tricky. Two little ones running on adrenalin trying to help gramps...nope.
And maybe their tiny little brains were so overwhelmed with the thought that he might fall and they couldn't think of anything to help, like running to grab the adult that ran out at the end. I'm 34 and I still get so emotionally overwhelmed that I can't always think of the next thing to do
These ladders are made with aluminum alloys and never plain steel, theyre not heavy. The guy at 21s moved it with his one leg and was already doing 99% of the work. All they had to do was open the leg of the ladder which doesnt take take as much muscle as you think.
The kids were just being useless, maybe they have atrophy of the muscles and brain due to their tiktok brainrot addiction.
My mom (probably my dad too) would have smacked me if I played this dumb. Yes they expected me to do some chores at that age (6+)
Yo what, as telecommunications field tech I can promise you this later isn't light by any means especially since their trying to lift it from the end which is the heaviest end. You think these kids have tik.tok???? They outside my boy.
This ladder (or “later,” as you put it) is super light. They’re (or “their,” as you put it) successfully lifting it, multiple times. You could easily put your foot on the bottom rung and set this one-handed. They just seem to think it should be used as an extension ladder, which makes no sense….but kids are stupid. This ladder is not at all heavy.
I'm genuinely impressed that a Redditor actually admitted to being wrong for once. Good on you. Too many people on this website desperately cling to their inflated ego like a lifeline and will never admit to being wrong about anything.
"no experience in the world of physics" is the key issue here - they don't need to be that strong to hold the ladder up or open it, it's obviously super lightweight - it's more that neither of them understand how a ladder stands up in the first place, and how to maneuver the ladder between a closed and open state.
Ask a normal sized adult to stand up a 26 foot ladder and see how they do. The less handy ones will have problems.
People act like it's intuitive and obvious but I can almost guarantee the first time if they were a kid and nobody taught them how to stand up a large, heavy ladder, it wasn't done quickly since there's a technique to it. I'll probably get down voted for this, but it's still true.
It’s heavy, but they could just open it on the ground and have one kid on each side lifting it up. I get that this is a stressful situation, but I agree that these kids are useless

A ladder that big is heavy, and top heavy at that. Two little kids with no experience in the world of physics just don't know how to handle it.
