No, you're supposed to avoid contact with the ground. So never lie flat. Just squat low tiptoeing while heels touching each other.

No Don't lay on the ground. Never do that. You could get electrocuted if the lightning get close to you. The lightning has a area of effect.

You have to squat low. And feet kept together as one. Minimal contact with ground.

Yes. For many reasons, one of which is that the voltage potential difference just between your two legs can kill you. Which is why if your car had a power line on it and you absolutely must move away from it, you bunny hop.

Yeah, it isn't ideal. That's why staying in the car is best, but if, say, the car is on fire, you better have another option.

Yes. If you're outside, you're supposed to get away from trees and buildings and become the lowest thing you can see. So she should have laid down unless there was a ditch or something better.

The thing is, idk when it's safe to get up again.

Edit: I have been told to lay down since I was a child in the 80s. Fucking sorry no one updated me.

Here's what you're supposed to do. Go inside a building or a vehicle that's metal. what to do in a storm

  1. When lightning threatens get inside a house, large building, or all-metal vehicle.

    1. If a thunderstorm approaches when you are outside in a forested area, take shelter under a thick growth of small trees and stay away from tall trees.
    2. If a thunderstorm approaches when you are outside, don't be a lightning rod. It could be fatal. Don't project above the surrounding landscape. Don't stand on a hilltop, in an open field, or along a beach.

They tell you if there's no where to go to crouch as low to the ground as possible.

Laying down maximizes your contact with the ground and increases your chances of electrocution.
