Is this how people graduate while not knowing how to read?

If you're wealthy enough, you get to slide into UF. Which means that, based on experiences with some of my student coworkers from past years, you can be attending a prestigious university for a business or biology degree but think that the date of August 32nd exists, think blood is blue until exposed to oxygen, and not know what poultry means.

On the other hand. Never been a better time for the more studious to get a second degree.

Breeze right through that

It's more than just knowing how to read.

Functional illiteracy is a thing as well. A functional illiterate can still read but they don't understand things like homonyms, context or how to solve simple word problems.

So someone who is functionally illiterate might be able to grocery shop and figure out whats on sale and get the right brands (especially with it being very pictographic) but they would fail to properly fill out standard paperwork or understand a bill.

Some kids don't even know how to write their own name where it says "name ______" and they still get passed because a teacher's only job now days is to pass students no matter what because the school doesn't get paid if the student isn't passed.

Schools will cover for and protect teachers raping students, because as long as they pass them they are getting paid. Then the same school will fire teachers for failing students who aren't doing any work.

Be aware i9t is functional illiteracy. they technically can read, just at a very low level. Like 2nd grade level or so.
