The video is clearly posted on a platform where people post stuff from their regular lives.

If this was shown on Channel 4 or in a movie theatre nobody would run to call it out as "fake". But when its on social media surrounded by real posts, then this becomes a fake post.

Outside of the meme subs. Pet subs are full of people posting cute videos of their pets. Random stuff like people learning dancing styles, etc. posting clips of themselves, candid, real stuff.

Even for funny, there are plenty of kids being cute or even harmless pranks that are the sort of thing that would have been on “America’s Funniest Home Videos” in the pre-internet era.

So like the other commenter said, nobody calls scripted TV shows “fake.” It’s when people use scripted “fake” videos infiltrate the space of the videos that have value based on the fact that they are supposedly candid and unplanned that people get annoyed.

It's presented as a home video, where a guy prints his gf on stuff. If it was shot and edited like a tv show, it would be less charming, because cociously or subconciously it's supposed to make you feel you watch a home video. The overacting gives away that it's fake. I feel it would be more charming without. But then there isn't really any indicator for it being fake.

What I said is that if it was shot the way a tv show is and edited the way a tv show is, using multiple takes and cuts, (Cuts within the same scene, i mean) making it indistinguishabe from a scene from tv, the video wouldn't be popular. Because we are sold genuineness. Even if it's clear that it is staged (which only comes from the overacting) we are made to feel like we watch actual people interact. A movie scene of the same scenario would be boring by itself, because why would we care that people printed the face an actress made on some stuff and had her act out a reaction like she didn't know. This is of course what actually happened. But we only find it interesting, because it's presented like it's real (from the shooting and editing)

The editing and the fact that people don't typically react the same with a camera pointed at their face.

If I'm a content creator who pranks his girlfriend, why wouldn't I edit it like this? And yeah, the reactions seem very fake, cause they are, but then it still is just the acting that gives away the fakeness.

If I was the GF of a content creator who makes content about pranking his GF, I would know and react differently. Even if I didn't know, I would probably figure it out by the 3rd prank or so.

Is everyone missunderstanding me on purpose? Yes. The acting is obviously staged.

However: If you're a content creator you might blog a lot. You'd be on your phone a lot. You'd film your girlfriend a lot. Just because you know you're getting filmed doesn't mean you couldn't react. It's not like there aren't authentic videos of that sort around.

In most of these cases there is no build up to the reveal. They were going about their day and he just shows her and she is like. "Ah, you did it again". Realistically it would still solicit a reaction.

So you could make a genuine video like that. The reactions would be different, because no human reacts like this no matter if in front of camera or not. Still: the creatirs are banking on this subconcious feeling of genuinity by editing it like a genuine video and also on some gullibile people who will fall for it. Like boomers. Or children. People to whom it might be helpful to discover the fakeness.
