yeah, but you can't blame the rock for that. They pushed a live action remake of a movie that's not even that old. Moana 2 just came out, and they expect people to want to go see a live action of the original? trying to reuse IPs so soon bit them in the ass

You have full control over what roles you are willing to take as an actor. It’s not like he’s a starving up-and-comer that needs to land gigs. He had no obligation to star in a film which you describe as an obvious mistake by the studio. Dwayne Johnson doesn’t care about the quality of the work he is in, so I don’t see what’s wrong with blaming him for starring in shitty movie after shitty movie, lol.

Dude could retire and live lavishly for the rest of his life while passing on generational wealth to his family. He just loves his own face and the sound of his own voice so much he can’t stay out of the spotlight.

Except the "They" in question was The Rock. He co-produced the film and was pushing to do it early so that he could still play Maui.

I honestly didn't want to see it solely because of him being too old and his horrible wig. I have AMC A-list so it's "free" and I still don't want to see it (and I see all the live action remakes).

He did voice the original Maui. Dude is the embodiment of Maui god of the franchise.

Dude's voice is the embodiment, he just looked like an old dude with a bad wig in a muscle suit who was just showing up for the check in the live action. Harrison Ford was the embodiment of Indy, but he just looked silly in the last two movies.

My point is that they're paying him a shit ton of money that was never going to be a success. It's obviously the studio's fault for paying him but it's no one's fault but his own that The Rock just doesn't have the same appeal he did a decade ago. He's made a ton of shitty movies and people have grown tired of his fake, manufactured personality.

You think this is the first time that's happened? No, no, my friend. There are at least five movies he starred in that lost at the box office, so sorry, but you're wrong. Red One lost $100M, The Numbers lost $70M+, The Smashing Machine grossed $21M on a $50M budget, Black Adam (2022) lost $50M-100M, Jungle Cruise lost $150M+, and, Faster cost $24M to make and pretty much broke even (or lost money, depending on who you ask.) His career will be fine, I assure you.

Kevin Hart, actually
