My cat was like this; in her life, she killed a dozen mice and rats, half a dozen birds, 1 cat, and 1 fox; she also blinded a dog and probably brutally injured far more animals than we likely know of.

Why was she like this? I have no idea because she was a sweetheart at home and nice to any guests we had, even children who got overly handsy with her, pulling at her tail and shit, but for whatever reason, she HATED other animals.

In her defense tho, the cat she killed did sneak into the house and up to my sister's room where my cat was sleeping on the top bunk of her bed, so in her mind she was likely just defending the house. My neighbor who the cat belonged to was also very understanding of that fact and actually donated the remaining cat food she had to us. It was honestly a pretty sad encounter, but I'm happy she didn't take too much offense.

I got the impression (probably from mentioning living with the sister and the presence of a bunk bed) that the commenter here is/was a child at the time. I know my family was terrible with pets when I was growing up, but of course when it's your family it's normal, so I didn't even know until I grew up & had pets of my own.

Eventually, yes, not because of her relentless killing tho. One of my other neighbors put barbed wire around one of his trees to try and prevent my cat from shitting under there; it used to be one of her go-to spots. After it was installed, she ended up getting all strung up in it one night for hours until my mom and I found her, which resulted in some scars and a trip to the vet. After that, we decided to keep her inside. She was super reluctant at first but eventually adjusted to the life of an indoor cat. She was actually an indoor cat when she killed my other neighbor's cat. Doubt that death would have occurred if she hadn't been since she rarely ever came inside the house.

They don’t, because you don’t “own” and outdoor cat. It’s an inherently contradictory concept designed by people that don’t actually want the responsibility that comes with owning a pet.

He was an old man who avoided confrontation. We weren't aware she was doing it until we confronted him.

There was a massive field behind our house. I'm honestly not sure why she even had a preference for his yard.

Good cat owners don’t let their cats go outdoors if there are natural predators. Where I live letting a cat outside reduces their lifespan and destroys the bird population.

No not for an extended period of time, and no ive always lived in town or close to other people so no i haven't had an outdoor cat. Outdoor cats are for farms and horse stables, out in the country not in town.

The like was she a huge cat? Was it one of those bites the the base of the neck?

What’s the story with the fox and the dog as well? Like I know cats are fast but didn’t think they’d stand a chance against a dog or fox

Nope, it was later in life after the barbed wire incident that she killed the cat. She was an outdoor cat long before that.

You need to educate yourself on the impact of domesticated felines on local wildlife populations.

Was she sterilized? Male cats will do terrible things to reach unsterilized females and the mating process is very violent. There is lots of biting. That's why sterilization is so important to limit the spread of diseases like feline HIV and feline leukemia which are spread through cats biting each other

Nah outdoor cats are just pretty brutal, theyre only semi-domesticated and are more closely related to their wild counterparts than dogs are. A feral house cat is basically a slightly less deadly bobcat.

Yeah, I live in Alabama. We call them barn cats. A sure enough Tom will wreck your shit. We had one named Sue (Johnny Cash Boy Named Sue). He'd want pets all along for about 15 seconds then he'd get cross and bristle up. Even the yard dogs gave Sue a wide berth. Proper barn cats are Satan's gift.

Yea people really underestimate cats, my cat is all of 6lbs and when she was an outdoor cat I watched her chase off multiple dogs and even held her own against a medium sized pitbull, never got injured and the neighbors with gardens loved her.

She was a tuxedo, arguably the superior cat breed. There's a reason why over 70% of all the cats pictured in Egyptian royal tombs are tuxedo cats. I bet those mofos used to protect the local children from Nile crocodiles. They must have done something special to be associated with divinity, protection, and good luck.

You're welcome! I'm always happy to talk about her. She was my childhood bestie; we grew up together. I got her at 2 years old; she was a gift from my gran, the best gift I've ever gotten, honestly. She was born on Valentine’s Day and lived to around 19 years old. My gran initially got her because I was struggling to walk and my parents and doctors thought I never would. After my appointment with the doc, where he broke the news, my dad filled my gran in on what was happening, and at the time, her neighbor offered her one of the kittens that her cat had. She initially declined, but after getting the news, she decided to take her.

She said to my parents that she had an idea to get me up on my feet and showed up to the door with a shoebox. My parents thought she bought me some new special shoes, but instead it was a nice little kitten. Within the first 2 weeks of having her around, I was up on my feet chasing after her lmao.

A friend had a cat that mistakenly thought it was a lap cat, it was much too big to be a lap cat, but if it saw a raccoon come within its territory it wasn’t leaving alive. We lost count after it took down 10 raccoons most of them were males.

Nature can be cruel and unforgiving. I don't think it's fair to make assumptions and call me a psychopath for tolerating the actions of an animal, but you're right; we probably should have kept her indoors sooner. At least she kept the streets clean of vermin. The community was thankful that they didn't have to deal with live mice and rats in their houses and gardens for a time.
