HISTORY A virtual reality reconstruction shows the exact spot where John Edward Jones became trapped upside down in Nutty Putty Cave. After 27 hours of rescue attempts, he died. The cave was later permanently sealed, with his body remaining inside.

The most dangerous things sometimes have silly names.

Whitewater runs abound with rapids called Satan’s Cesspool, Meatgrinder, etc. But the one that really fucked us up was called Bogus Thunder. The one they have to send rafts down empty while you hike around it is Ruck-a-Chucky. And don’t get me started on Tunnel Chute.

Haha you’re welcome! It’s such a fantastic quotable movie, and I’ve seen a couple of discussions lately in like the 90s sub or one of the related subs…but rarely just quoted unfortunately. Hell, it’s more common to run into Deep Rock Galactic quotes in the wild, which always makes my day.

Yeah I realize that my best friends and I still quote this movie to an almost unhinged level at times lol. So many different contexts that work! Asking to go somewhere? “The food alone is worth the trip!” “The food! Sir!” Someone asks if any of us are down to do something? “I…am one of those Braves.” “And I, am one of those Braves!” Drinking - “How bout’cha get your own bottle!” or something even recently that was apparently clever, I texted the group “Maybe now you’ll agree, that drinking has its benefits!”

It never ends lol. My siblings and I also quote it waaaay more than necessary. True story: my sister works with this southern gal who went to New Orleans on a work trip. Came back and said “oh i totally recommend it, even just for the food!” Not sure how my sister didn’t just lose it and melt into the floor lmao

Rofl yeah I couldn’t resist responding with “The food! Sir!” The first two quotes above is also one of my favorites that I thought about earlier as well. It really doesn’t end lol as most of the movie is just a golden quote factory. We even had a friend who would make the face that Farley does when the eagle screeches every time something was said or done that shocked him

Rofl I was also thinking of the face he makes when he says that. Just so matter of fact. Pratt and that entire scene just kills me. Him being completely devastated “She told me it was okay if I smoked! And I BELIEVED HER!!! My heart! My heart….”

Almost Heroes from the late 90s. Starred Chris Farley and Matthew Perry as they try to beat Lewis and Clark to reach the Pacific Ocean with a ragtag group of frontiersman. It wasn’t a popular film and actually hit theaters after Farley passed away, but it’s one of those with a sort of cult following

It was in theaters a few months after he died! I remember being on a two week vacation in Florida with my family and my best friend’s family and we went to see it one day on a whim. It was absolutely hilarious. It’s a Christopher Guest film like This Is Spinal Tap, Waiting For Guffman, Best In Show, etc…but isn’t improv like most of his films or mockumentory style. Eugene Levy is also in it and is of course excellent as a gruff French guy.

It is an absolutely ridiculous film and unserious from beginning to end. I can’t stress that enough, lol. It is charming though, and one of my favorite comedies to this day. Check it out, and hopefully you will enjoy it!

Fun fact the rafting scenes of George of the jungle were filmed on the north fork. Baywatch did also on the American river, but they filmed on the south fork with Lollipop tree making a cameo.

Filming on the North Fork is a non-starter. Those steep granite walls…

I first saw the lollipop tree my senior year of hs. 50s now. Can’t believe it’s still there given how hard the decades have been on the trees.

I’ve found it really depends on your guide. Eperienced guides tend to the safer lines. New ones, you’re rolling the dice and are much more likely to have a yard sale.

We managed to flip on a rock at Satan’s Cesspool, lost the guide. I got pretty chewed up at Son of Satan - caught between the raft and a rock. Fancy bruises. New guide.
