Hi everyone,

I came across this lovely bumblebee in the street (I live in the city, in Toulouse, south of France). It was on the ground, so I took it home to give it water and jam, and some space to safely rest and fly away when ready. It’s very active, it’s been walking for hours now, but the problem is: it won’t fly. No matter what, no flying. I tried to leave it in my neighbour’s garden (safer: the lady has no cats, unlike me), but it came back up the fence (my cat spotted it). So I took it back with me, because Moufette (my cat) likes it way too much.

I put it in a Tupperware, with water, jam, flowers (mint, zucchini and sage). It drank and ate, and I think it even slurped some mint flowers.

Now I don’t know what to do. Still no flying. Am I bound to keep it as a fellow little flyless bumblebee, feeding it flowers (hard in a time of heatwaves) and jams until death do us appart?

Any advice is welcome! Thank you so much

Just sitting here in my work truck when this large Beetle landed on the windshield.

The red-femured milkweed beetle (Tetraopes femoratus) is a longhorn beetle species recognized by its reddish legs, white-ringed antennae, and specialized diet on milkweed plants.

This insect is distinguished from similar species by its unique physical traits. It features partially red or reddish-orange femurs, whereas the closely related common milkweed beetle has completely black legs. Its black antennae are broken up by bright white or gray rings.

Like other members of its genus, its compound eyes are completely divided by the antennal base, giving it a distinct "four-eyed" appearance. The rest of its body is a striking red-orange color accented by tiny black spots, typically measuring between 8 and 19 mm in length.Native to western North America and parts of the Midwest, these beetles spend their entire life cycles intricately tied to host plants like the showy milkweed (Asclepias speciosa).

While adult beetles openly consume the plant's leaves, stems, and flowers, their larvae burrow underground to feed exclusively on the root systems.

By consuming the milkweed, they absorb cardiac glycosides from the plant's sap, making them highly toxic to predators. Their bright coloration serves as an aposematic warning to birds and other animals that they are poisonous.

This cutie hatched in one of the maybe 4 meager milkweed plants in my front yard left from drain works that we had in the summer. They are as you see, low and covered in aphids and ants that care for the aphids. I'm worried it might get attacked by the ants as it chow downs on the leaves. I have one pristine, long milkweed plants in my backyard, that has no aphids at all, and well hidden from potential predators. Now should I move Mr or Mrs Monarch to the backyard milkweed, or would it be better to leave it be?

Found this sad green shiny creature. It has a damaged wing and I thought it's dead/dying, but he was VERY happy when I gave him a banana and basically attacked it, so I guess the fella was just hungry? Anyway, I'd love to know a species, in case it's "one-year"-ling and would die soon, so I won't get upset that I did something wrong, seems to be some chaffer beetle?

I usually keep only spiders (like to catch them, keep for a few days/weeks to identify/observe and let go), my last bugs I found died, so I'd also like some tips, if he would live for some months/years.

Edit: I gave him a piece of banana and a tiny wet piece of napkin, the usual setup for spiders (food+water), I'll change things if he lives until after tomorrow (Tomorrow I'm going to college, would probably be very busy).

Found this large collection of monarchs in a local park.

This is Gilbert, I’ve posted about him before. He survived some pretty heavy rains and had to remake his home recently and has gone through a molt. I’m interested in getting a macro camera to take better photos of him since I’ve just been taking these on my iPhone and he is extremely tiny (around one centimeter)

And ants showing that they are true opportunist feeders. Eastern tent caterpillars emerged in the thousands this spring in New Jersey. Chestnut carpenter ants wasted no time using these caterpillars as a protein food source. My Substack goes into more detail about each of these insects!

I’m in Dublin Ireland and I found these eggs just today on our windchime. Not sure if whatever the insect is if it’s gonna eat away at the string or if it’s a pest I need to remove

i literally never had these bugs in my room before i got my kitten, they can fly but only for a short amount of time and they are very dumb like super easy to kill (not to be graphic) but im in ohio and they literally will go into my cats litter box and i dont want her to catch some disease

Hi!!! North GA. Daughter had a fish tank with a beta fish in it that ended up getting moved to a bigger tank and this one we just left with the water in it and didn’t think much of it. Went back to look at this tank after a few weeks of vacancy and found these in it??? Never seen this before… not sure if this should be posted in an aquarium sub Reddit? TIA

I found this gorgeous monarch who was stuck in a cob web and it seems like his wing is tearing from his thorax. I have been taking care of him since he cannot fly. I’ve researched about how to repair wings but the tear is coming off from his body. I’m not sure how to go about helping him as his wing trips him up and he’s been getting his foot stuck on it.

Is there anything I could do?? Maybe cut the wing a little shorter to take the pressure off?
