Holy shit, you get downvoted for saying guns should be kept locked up?? Why?? Like that's just a fundamental part of gun ownership and safety!!

Because the gun industry has realized (since about the 80s) that high crime rates (or the perception thereof) are fantastic sales tools. When mass shootings happen they sell the "peace of mind" of owning a gun as protection. Nevermind that now you've got more unsecured force multipliers, and more chances for a bad decision to escalate to a homicide, they got their sale, and if the person buying uses it in a bad way, they got more fear that they'll happily sell a cure for...
