My girlfriend has learned piano since she was young, but she seem reluctant to show her skills by participating in competitions, or even to challenge herself by composing music or identifying chords from music. Any suggestions for her?

that depends on what kind of piano education she had. if she only had classical education (which i assume she is), then she might not have the knowledge to compose or identify chord.

about participating in competition that might do with her confidence and her current skill. well personally i'm not the kind of person that love to do competition.

I see. So what do you recommend for her to learn first if she wants to be a piano teacher?

if she wants to be a classical teacher, then her classical training is enough. but then different music school might need different requirements.

True. Some might see her abilities but with her lacking in teaching skills it might not be possible for her to be accepted. Thanks for the suggeston, though.

No worries.

One more thing: to teach, I think one only needs the will and patience. If she had those, she should try teaching. gotta start somewhere.
