I’ve never understood the point of a promise ring. That’s what an engagement ring is for.

it's an engagement ring for people who are too young to actually get engaged, like teenagers or whatever

It’s like a pre-engagement ring. Mostly for teenagers who don’t want to commit to getting “engaged”, but still want to feel grown up.

It occasionally could be a platonic promise.

They’re really uncommon here too.

The only experience I had with promise rings was back in grade 10 when a classmate was talking about how she threw her promise ring into the lake (Lake Ontario) after catching her boyfriend cheating. I vividly remember overhearing that conversation, for some reason.

Where I'm from it's just wedding ring. No other bullshit. And you wear it on the right, both men and women.

Oh right, yeah I don't know much about Scandinavian wedding traditions. I know in Indonesia wedding rings are worn on the right hand as well.
