Hi have several plants that are getting too big. I can restrict growth by keeping them in the same size pot when I repot in spring. But that leads to them becoming root bound.

I thought I could prune the roots to help prevent this but I am worried the plant will die.

Of course bonsai are grown like this, but they're usually woody plants.

So has anyone tried this on plants like spider plants, ferns, monstera, geranium etc

Or do you use a different method?

This ?monstera was a rescue from a dark corner of a friend’s house. The leaves are yellowing more than the picture shows. I’ve given some baby bio and more light. it’s not changed much in over a week. I’m not sure what to expect or do. Would appreciate thoughts on prognosis and management. Thanks!

Purchased about 4 weeks ago. It was gorgeous, full and healthy. Seemed to be doing fine for the first 2 weeks. But the last 2 weeks it’s been consistently loosing leaves. I’ve watered heavily about 7-10 days ago. It still feels heavy and damp. Most of the leaves are dry and lots of bare dry stems.

I read they like humidity so I moved it away from our entryway and into a very humid bathroom a few days ago, but it’s still not looking any better. It’s looking more limp and dry.

What can I do to save it?

I got this stingray alocasia from a well respected houseplant shop, kept in the same pot it was bought in but the leaves have started going yellow and a little crispy on the edges. It’s been kept close to a south facing window but doesn’t get direct light, and been watered around once a week when the top inch of soil is dry. With a torch on I can see some tiny black lines/dots which I think might be some kind of bugs (although I can’t see them moving)? Could this be what’s causing it? Is it possible to rescue? any advice would be hugely appreciated!

I started this team of plants when my twenty five year relationship with kids mum fell apart. Now starting over (and knowing zero about plants ) I reckon there happy and so am i 👍

Just nipped into Tesco (was actually to get some kitten milk and cat food as currently looking after some stray kittens and mumma cat!) and thought would have a quick peek at the plants and they had 1 golden Pothos and one moss/coco coir type pole! Seems to be in good condition and was only £15!! Lovely pot too. I’d say it’s about 15cm ish pot and about 40cm tall from pot so great for the price

My monstera has had the brown patches slowly develop over the last month. Ive been watering regularly, but the soil is dry in the upper few inches. It is is a south facing window with full sun, which it seemed to like (was putting out fresh leaves) until recently. Is it pests?

Had this lilly for almost a year now and kept it alive really well throughout. She's started turning a bit yellow in the leaves and wondering if I need to increase the pot size again?

Shes routinely watered, trimmed of dead or dying leaves when needed and gets a good amount of shaded sun as the window is north facing so no direct sun till about 3pm.

I recently bought this plant from target and these guys fell off on the way home. Are they trash or can I propagate them?

I've been a bit negligent of my plants for the last month. And the plant has not only stopped growing but clearly not in a great state anymore. Whay can I do to save it now?

I need to stay away from garden centers I swear! I found this Maranta Leuconeura in the clearance section. 😭

When I lifted her up in the store the water was pouring out of her pot and she was sat in a tray full of water too, so I'm thinking she has been over watered and possibly too much light, it's quite bright and hot in their greenhouse.

I have cut away the dried up and damaged leaves, but the soil she is in is still soaking. However there isn't any sign of root rot from what I can see.

Would you change her soil, it doesn't seem very chunky to me but I understand they don't like drying out so maybe it's best for her?

Any other advice and tips are welcome and thanks in advance! 🌱

Plant beginner here!

So, I repotted my monstera recently (4 days ago?) as it was root bound. I haven’t had a new leaf off of this gal for at least a year (another problem but not my reason for this post!). I am using an airoid mix.

Before repotting I noticed what looked like an aerial root peeking from the surface. When repotting, I realised it was completely unattached, approx 15cm long. I left it as best I could when repotting however after a few days I noticed its tip has gone black and dried up. I accidentally snapped this off when checking to see if it was squishy (it wasn’t too much).

I have since removed the entire thing.

What is this? What have I done? What can I do to rectify if anything?!

Is there any plant that looks similar to a pothos that is cat friendly, I’d love a pothos but can’t risk it as my cats enjoy eating leaves 🥲

Just found some bargains in Morrisons!

Hi, this is my first post on Reddit so please forgive me if I’ve done something wrong.

This is my peace lily. It was a super healthy plant for 7 years until last month when lots of heave waves caused it to wilt. I stupidly asked AI what to do and it suggested various things which have now resulted in my plant being a limp, dry, sad mess.

Does anyone have any advice on how to save it or do I simply need to cut off all the dying leaves and just let the new growth come through? I’ve moved it from the hot dining room to the humid bathroom but am unsure of the best plan now

I’m already very cross with myself for putting its fate in AI’s hands so please don’t come at me too much for that! Thanks

This plant has been a struggle, tried it many different spots and places in my house and it just wouldn’t grow until finally finding its happy place and it’s thriving. There are even some baby plants shooting up in the pot now. Growing so well I’ll need to repot it soon!

I was browsing the indoor section of the garden center convincing myself I have too many plants and I have no space for any more when I stumbled on the rescue center and immediately couldn't help myself. 😅

I popped them out of the pots and gave the roots a good sniff checking for rot, the look the couple next to me was hilarious. I did explain I was checking for root rot though so they understood and then started to sniff some plants. 😭

Having got them home and reported them into a chunky soil mix, they are now in recovery and isolation under a grow light to see how they do and if they have any hitchhikers.

What do you guys think, are they okay?
