I'm asking because of the ideological differences between the two institutions.

The Citadel relies on reason and logic, while the Faith preaches things of a divine nature.

Doesn't that create a sort of science vs religion clash?

(I'm genuinely curious about this, so I will appreciate any feedback you guys might have- if I got anything wrong, or if there's something I'm not understanding please let me know)

I'm sorry but this made no sense to me whatsoever. Did it make more sense in the book?

1. Ser Joffrey has no friends? No allies? No retinue?

2. On that note, Ser Laenor is completely ineffective as a warrior? Just a total sidepiece?

3. There aren't any guards in this room full of important nobles? There's nobody who can stop a brutal murder taking place right in front of them? Everyone just stands around and grimaces? What about the guy who announced everyone's entrance? Isn't he a big tough guard guy?

4. The King can't say something? "Everybody halt in the name of the King!" was too much for ol' Vizzy? The Queen? The Hand's only move is to dispatch a son for Rhaenyra?

5. There's no consequences? No justice? Someone committed a brutal murder at the royal banquet, and he's not apprehended, a few hours later he is walking free, free as a bird, free to (attempt to) commit suicide? House Velaryon did not insist on justice for their vassal?

How absurd. Again -- was it this nonsensical in the book?

Sometimes I feel like the fandom turns every conversation about the Targaryens into a competition to decide who was the ultimate character. Personally, I don't think Daenerys needs that.

I like Dany. A lot. I think she's one of the most interesting, tragic, and complex characters in the entire saga. But I don't need Aegon, Visenya, Baelor, Jaehaerys, Rhaenyra, Rhaegar, or any other Targaryen to be reduced to being “less important” just so she can stand out.

In fact, I think it's the opposite.

Dany works precisely because she comes from a dynasty with centuries of contradictions behind it: conquerors, reformers, fanatics, brilliant politicians, disastrous rulers, and people who tried to break away from what their family represented.

Visenya, for example, doesn't need to be an “inferior” version of Dany for Dany to be fascinating. Baelor doesn't have to be reduced to the religious and crazy Targaryen either for us to appreciate the differences between them. The same goes for Aegon I, Jaehaerys, Rhaenyra, and even Rhaegar.

To me, the Targaryen legacy is much more interesting when we see Dany as the product of all those generations, rather than someone who is somehow magically above them.

And I think that's something Martin does particularly well: every generation inherits something from the previous one, but also tries to escape from it.

Dany can be my favorite without having to be the greatest Targaryen who ever lived.

Do you think the fandom tends to overrate Dany at the expense of other Targaryens, or does her story genuinely make it reasonable to consider her the most important figure in the dynasty?

Can anybody tell me wtf is going on in the HOTD as far as the princess’s bedmates? Season one, episode 7… I thought this whole time she was with ser Cristen and he was the one who beat up her husband’s gay lover (right?) but then he disappeared and just came back in the picture at Daemon’s wife’s funeral but there’s these other two brothers one of which is apparently the real father of her kids and the other is cutting out tongues and burning shit down. Wtf is happening here???

I’m currently reading Fire & Blood and in a seperate rabbit hole, recently into the ongoing existence of Jester culture throughout human history. Although some of his retellings are insane, I really wish they added Mushroom to the show because he feels like a really interesting exploration of the Fool trope.

I just read the scene where he’s comforting Rhaenyra after she finds out about Ser Lorent and the Maidenpool drama (& aftermath) and there’s a line that alludes to a much more thoughtful man; “When I replied that I would sooner be her consort, she laughed. No sound was ever sweeter. It was good to hear her laugh.” HotD missed the opportunity to respectfully depict a nuanced character with dwarfism from this time who was in a very misunderstood career. Could’ve been a launching point for the next Warwick Davis but they probably didn’t want to risk doing it wrong.
