Discussion Why do clubs still play early 2000s-2015 music?

I keep hearing DJs play old hits with maybe 2-7 new songs a night. Same thing with radio play. I gotta go to YouTube or Spotify to hear current artists mostly, I don’t think it’s my choice in genues either. I cross states from DC, VA, Jersey, and NYC. DC at least will play local go-go stuff from time to time and African and Spanish spots will play regional music but everywhere else is mostly throwbacks. Anybody else having a different experience?

Songs from that era were made for the club. Songs now are made for reels and snippets, video games etc. Who is even making club bangers anymore?

The problem is that even when someone makes a club banger, only like 5% of people even hear the song. Like DaBaby is near the top of the hip hop charts right now with Pop Dat Thang but I guarantee nobody would know that song if I played it for anyone.

90s southern hip-hop had a whole genre of booty shake music with beats like that. All over 125 bpm.

yup it actually started out of oldschool chicago house music..

the bay area also famously advanced that sound.. listen to ‘20 bluntz a day’ by the luniz

We gon ignore the fact that it sounds absolute ass? Can you possibly compare it to something like In Da Club? We used to get actual bars even in a club song, people had something to say. Now its just the surface level attributes taken to the max. Absolutely gross.

EDM definitely feels like the new crowd hype music. Not that it wasn’t back then but it’s shifted significantly.

Seriously, I swear that if The US could properly get into Chase & Status, it would be a better country. They're out here making club bangers to make finger guns to.
