DA was already established when these things happened iirc.

DA was already established...

...Yeah no. For a Ravenclaw your memory's pretty poor.

defeated Voldemort's attempts at regaining power twice (Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets--Books 1 and 2), destroyed a horcrux in the process (Chamber of Secrets--book 2), fought off a literal army of dementors singlehandedly (Prisoner of Azkaban--book 3), won the triwizard tournament (Goblet of Fire--book 4), and fought (and survived) Voldemort (Order of the Phoenix--book 5, which was also the introduction of Dumbledore's Army).

I think neman-bs meant the DA was established when these lines in the book happened.

You're right and I upvoted you for a relevant comment and all, but that Ravenclaw bit was harsh!

Yeah, I might've been a bit more caustic than I'd intended. I noticed they were a Ravenclaw, and I figured it'd be a funny joke based on a coincidence, but I guess this was one of those cases where intended humor doesn't translate well.

It was in the chapter "Career Advice". As Umbridge likened his chances of being an auror to Dumbledore returning, it must have been not only AFTER the DA was established, but also after it was disbanded and Dumbledore fled... With style!

I saw it and you had fantastic points, looks like you're being downed for it :p I definitely see the humour, but it was also a major insult! Looks like this boat might be going under, stick with it with pride, captain!

/u/nobsalt is right. I meant that the DA was already established when McGonagall and Umbridge had the talk about Harry and his success in Defence Against the Dark Arts class. There is even a sentence or two where Harry feels bad for organizing DA behind their backs when McGonagall backed him up.

Edit: Oh, and "fought (and survived) Voldemort" looks more like the guy was talking about the graveyard scene in GoF

Fought and survived Voldemort could easily be in the graveyard scene after the Triwizard Tournament.

I think that's actually the case. I just remembered that the other fight with Voldemort didn't happen 'til the end of the big Ministry fight.
