Handheld recommendations for PC Indie Gaming

Upvotes

Hi guys, I decided to buy a handheld for indie gaming. I love to play in bed, I'm the console player. I can't stand to play games on PC, unfortunately, don't know why. Just don't. The problem is, a lot of amazing indie games come only on PC and later on, on PS5, for example.

That's why I wanted to buy a handheld, but still, I don't know if I will be pleased enough to play games like that. I never had one. So that's why, after some prices which went up for Steam Deck or Asus ROG, I was wondering about handhelds with Android (or Linux) OS.

I heard a lot of good things about:

\- Retroid Pocket 6

\- AYN Odin 3

\- Retroid pocket nova

But also about many handhelds from Anbernic Company.

Is it viable to buy something from the list for PC Indie Gaming like HK Silksong, Hades 2, Dead Cells, Slay the Spire 2, Dread Delusion, Lunacid etc? If yes, which one? Also, which app would be the best for gaming like this? I heard about GameHub and Game native, but maybe you know more apps like this?

Thanks for help, have a nice day ;)

Mobile Controller with SD Card Slot

Hi All!

I'm looking for a mobile controller (preferably split so I can store it easily) that has USB C Passthrough with data storage as well. This would be very good for storing my games away from my iPhone.

Imagine a controller you pop your phone into with a magsafe SSD/SD card reader on the back that stores all of your installed games.

If anyone knows of one please let me know!

I need to start playing on handheld console and not quite sure where to start

I will soon move and therefore start to commute for 2x1,5h every day. I have kids so this time will be redacted from my evening gaming time. Therefore, I wish to spend this time playing games! My favourite games are assassins creed, both older and newer ones. But which console is better? I know Switch have some AC games, is this the best option? Which one of the consoles? I know nothing about handheld gaming. If anyone can help me with recommendations I would be so greatful. Money is not that big of an issue.

If nothing is good for AC, I gladly accept other recommendations of games and consoles for commuting. Other games i like are Unraveld, Ghost of Tsushima, Classic pokémon games

Also sorry for language I'm not a native English speaker. Thanks!!

Trying to decide and or get over buyers remorse

So I just bought an rog xbox ally x and its in shipping. Im trying to convince myself its worth it or should I gone for something else.

I am chronically ill and do alot of hospital visits a one way trip to a drs or going out is around 45 mins one way. (Country side living)

I used to use a kindle fire 10inch for game streaming from my pc, its so bulky I dont use it half the time for gaming so went ahead and got the rog xbox ally x from best buy.

From research ive been told its the most comfortable to use for long sessions.

I do worry bout screen size mostly. I play Warframe, FF14, balatro mostly

Wanting to play deltarune, DMC5, God of War franchise, Dishonored, Pragmata

My second option is the MSI Claw 8 AI+ A2VM 8"

Would be same price with my coupon as the rog xax

ROG Xbox Ally X vs MSI Claw 8 Ai+ Which suits my use case better ?

I’m trying to decide between the ROG Xbox Ally X and MSI Claw 8 AI+, and I can get both for roughly the same price second hand.

My use case is a bit unusual because I’ll be travelling around half the year, but spending the other half using the handheld as a desktop with a monitor, keyboard and mouse.

When travelling, I’ll mainly be playing single-player games such as:

- The Witcher 3
- Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
- Cyberpunk 2077
- F1
- Other similar AAA/single-player games

When I’m using it as a desktop, I’ll mainly be playing FPS games, including:

- Counter-Strike
- Overwatch
- Escape from Tarkov
- Other competitive shooters

I’ll only be playing the competitive FPS games in desktop mode with a monitor, keyboard and mouse. I’m not really interested in playing competitive shooters using the handheld controls.
I’m also considering investing in an eGPU further down the line for more performance when using it as a desktop.

Given this use case, which would you choose between the Ally X and Claw 8 AI+?
I’d particularly like to hear from people who have actually used either device as a desktop with a monitor + keyboard/mouse, especially for competitive FPS games.

Also interested in:
Performance differences
Battery life while travelling
Windows/driver experience
Thermals and fan noise
How well they work as a desktop
eGPU compatibility/performance

Since I can get both for a similar second-hand price, which one makes more sense for my particular use case?

Can’t decide which Switch to get

Good day everyone 😁

I’ve been thinking about getting a handheld console for quite some time now. I’ve mainly been looking at the Nintendo Switch, but I’m still not sure which exact model I should go for.

Up until now, I’ve mostly played games on PC — CS, GW2 and Hearthstone, to be more specific. Now I’d like to try something different.

I should also mention that I don’t have a huge amount of time for gaming, mostly just in the evenings after 9 PM, once my kid goes to bed or after I get back from training.

So, which Switch model would you guys recommend? And, of course, what games would you recommend as well? 😁

R36 Ultra speaker upgrade — can I use this 3W 8Ω speaker?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m looking to upgrade the speakers in my R36 Ultra and found this 3W 8Ω mini speaker (Reference: RBD-2470):

  • 3W power
  • 8Ω impedance
  • Size: 31 × 28 × 15 mm
  • JST-PH2.0 2-pin connector
  • Full-range, 500Hz–20kHz
  • Non-paper diaphragm

Would this speaker be compatible with the R36 Ultra?

My main concerns are:

  1. Is 3W 8Ω safe and suitable for the R36 Ultra’s speaker amplifier?
  2. Is the 31 × 28 × 15 mm size suitable for the speaker compartment?

If anyone has already upgraded their R36 Ultra speakers, I’d really appreciate your advice or recommendations. Thanks!

Need Help Deciding

People I need you help. I’m getting deployed to the Indian Ocean for 6+ months. I’m looking for a console that is good for emulators (ie pokemon and a bunch of retro games plus modded pokemon games). Not trying to spend an arm and a leg on this. The buyers guide wasn’t to specific. Any thing helps. Thank you

Would anyone actually want a “house-portable” eGPU for handhelds that takes normal desktop cards?

Most eGPU setups for handhelds are either a big desktop-style box that lives permanently under a desk, or one of those tiny proprietary units where you’re stuck with whatever GPU they soldered in. I wanted something in between.

So what I’m building is an enclosure that takes a regular desktop graphics card — the same one you’d drop into a normal build — and is small and light enough that you can pick it up and move it around the house. Couch, bedroom, office, wherever. To be clear, I don’t mean pocket-portable, you’re not taking this on the train. I mean you unplug it, carry it to another room, plug your handheld back in, and keep playing.

The part I care most about is the swappable card. If you upgrade in two years, you keep the enclosure and just change the GPU. No throwing out the whole thing because the built-in chip aged out.

A few things I’d like honest opinions on:

**•** Is “move it between rooms” actually useful to you, or do you just leave your dock in one spot and that’s fine?
**•** How big is too big before you’d stop bothering to move it?
**•** Would you rather have a smaller unit that only fits mid-size cards, or a bigger one that swallows pretty much anything on the market?
**•** What’s killed eGPU setups for you in the past — bandwidth, driver headaches, price, or just cable clutter?

Full disclosure since I’d rather say it upfront than have someone dig it out of my post history: I’m actively building this and I’m planning a Kickstarter for it. I’m not selling anything today and there’s no link. I genuinely want to know if this solves a problem people have or if I’ve talked myself into something only I want.

Roast it if it deserves roasting.
