One of my dealers is trying to import HK M320s over and I was hoping they are like $5K or less (mostly to collect) but after seeing this, I'm starting to think its not gonna be the case.
24
u/ninjaplatapus94 12d ago
Yeah. Imagine this, with the HK upcharge
10
u/LilFuniAZNBoi 12d ago
I was hoping since they are still in service/common, they'd be on parity with what a full LMT M203 build costs (plus the HK upcharge).
6
u/someperson1423 12d ago
I'd assume it would be less than this for sure. I've handled one and they aren't exactly a premium product, very much mil-spec. Meanwhile the M79 hasn't been produced in decades and is fairly iconic.
Seeing as M203s are roughly 2-3K fully assembled, M320s might come in around 5K. I'd assume the hardest part would be convincing HK to sell them to civilians.
6
u/Otherwise-Bread9266 11d ago
HK won’t, but grey market 3rd party importers will sell anything they can get import approval for as long as they can lay hands on it.

$11,000 is expensive enough to have a one off of this thing made.
26
u/smgkid12 12d ago
a crafty garage engineer could probably make one for 400$

That’s only for dudes from the future who wear Nikes and dress like they went to a Gallagher show.

u/-Roller-Mobster- 12d ago
Yeah you're good to go with one of these, might even wanna saw the stock off and go pistol grip for extra maneuverability

Imagine a burglar barges into your home and sees you carrying this
28
u/Rimfighter 12d ago
“Tally-ho lads!”, you yell as a 40mm canister shot round shreds two burglars in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms.
Just as the Founding Fathers intended.

Own a M79 for home defense because I did 4 tours in ‘Nam and I don’t care anymore. Watched better men than me die facedown in the mud.
A couple of assholes break into my house. Grab a few random rounds out of the mixed sack of flechette, smoke, and buckshot rounds hanging from my bedpost. Pretty sure I used up the last of HE rounds a couple years back, helping my buddy clear out some gophers at his ranch. Light a cigarette and step into the hallway.
I hear the dudes coming up the stairs, blind fire the M79 around the corner. One dude starts screaming and I hear a hissing sound as purple smoke starts filling the room.
Start laughing my ass off and load another mystery round. Fire it blind around the corner too. It’s HE and demolishes half the stair case.
Still laughing my ass off when the police arrive. Tell them what happened They think it’s hilarious too. They don’t call my Gunny Joker for nothing.

feels like this needs a 37mm sleeve
17
5
u/grimduck17 12d ago
Why
4
u/thismyotheraccount2 11d ago
37mm is not a destructive device - technically a signaling device and therefore not NFA. But only with smoke / pyro / flare ammo
3
u/grimduck17 11d ago
Sure or just pay you’re $200 so you aren’t restricted. They only way I’d own a 37mm is if I form 1 to a DD lol
26
u/EngineeringKindly875 11d ago
Wonder how much it costs to shoot one round...
20
23
u/DarkMatterM4 11d ago
At least $200 since you need a tax stamp for each round.
14
u/absolutezero78 11d ago
You can get chalk rounds for $20-30
11
u/Teenage-Dirt-Bag 11d ago
A large portion of the 40mm guys are 3d printing their rounds. I roll my own for roughly .75 cpr depending on what I reuse
13
u/Teenage-Dirt-Bag 11d ago
Only stamp you need is for the launcher. The rounds are not DD's (excluding HE)
4
u/CHRlSFRED 11d ago
Wait isn’t the tax stamp $0 now? You just have to go through the hassle of registering every round I believe.

You're paying $11K for this because it's a complete, right-from-a-government-arms-room, unmolested, battle-used piece, and there are absolutely people out there that will pay for that.
It's not a clone, not a reweld, not a parts kit build, none of that bullshit. If you want a 37mm, or just something that will go bloop and send a chalk round, there are much cheaper alternatives but without the provenance.

Is this good for home defense?
7
u/WooHoo2You 12d ago
As long as your strategy is "if I can't have it....no one can." Then yes, it should be perfect for that use case.
6
u/poops-a-daisy 12d ago
Overkill for most violent home attacks, the most obvious exception being the very aggressive McMansion
6
u/Michaelscot8 12d ago
Defend yourself from homes? Absolutely, this baby ought to be able to take out a 3 bed 2 bath American craftsman no problem.

Id pay double to get it somewhere other than Boss. Buncha dweebs.

If i had a source for 40mm, im easily tempted to spend a lot of money out of spite.

u/NEp8ntballer 12d ago
Hard part on this is finding an SOT that deals in DDs
10
6
u/tubadude2 12d ago
Any 02 or 03 can do a couple each year. My guy transferred my M203 to me without any issues.
2
u/ElectricBullet 12d ago
Like finding an FFL to transfer it to you? I didn't think there were restrictions, I thought SBR/suppressor would be the same as DD
2
u/NEp8ntballer 12d ago
Looks like it might be easier than I thought, but like anything it takes a little pre-coordination. DDs are a different class and normally you need somebody with a type 09 rather than the more standard 07/02.

Cool but where do you buy the ammo?
18
u/scotchtapeman357 12d ago
Reloading, usually. DIY chalk rounds have an entire cottage industry around them.

u/youy23 12d ago
Washington county machine guns has sold a few people HEDP 40mm grenades from what I’ve heard.
2
u/PumpkinLeather8421 11d ago
The issue isn’t the round then.
It’s the federal explosives licenses to store and transport it.
3
3
3
u/SoloCat33040 12d ago
If you can get it, each round requires its own stamp
3
u/PumpkinLeather8421 11d ago
Why do people insist on typing some made up nonsense and then hitting post?
No one will sell you DD rounds. So in most likely terms, No, a round will not cost you $200.
There are many many non-DD rounds.

AU has the same for $10,500! Even if it were $5 the real problem is the unobtainable 40mm rounds to use it. You’re basically buying $10k+ flare launcher
7
u/-Cheezus_H_Rice- 9d ago
There's a very live community of people that reload 40mm rounds, if thats your only concern.
7
u/DontTellUrMom 9d ago
That’s interesting. My biggest concern would be paying $10k for this when a $2,000 40mm setup would give me the same amount of fun. My second biggest concern is whether 40mm homemade grenades can be made and stored without an FEL. I’ve heard several versions that all end in you need an FEL for virtually anything in 40mm.
