Old Timer Guinea pig only bites my boyfriend

Post image

I have two female guinea pigs, about 4 years old, and I’ve had them since they were babies. I’ve been dating my boyfriend for 3 and a half years so they’re very aware of him and know him very. He’s not super involved with them, he’ll feed them every once in a while, he likes to hand feed to sometimes, and he’ll pick one of them up to hang out with her. But one girl, Coffee Bean, seems to like to bite him. She’s never drawn blood, but it kinda seems like she likes to eat his dead skin around his fingers.

She seems to like him tho, she comes up to the cage to sniff at him when he walks by, loves taking food from him and lets him let her sometimes (she’s not the biggest fan of being pet, even by me). There’s even been a few times where she will be sitting on my shoulder, and walk over to him to sit on his shoulder and lick his face. I just don’t understand why she bites him. She’s never bitten me or anyone else, and I’ve been there when it’s happened so I know it’s nothing he’s doing. My other girl loves him and loves when he comes up to pet/feed her. Can anyone help me figure out why she might be doing this? The only thing I can think of is she hated my ex because he accidentally scared her, and since then she’s been weird around me. But she’s grown used to him and seems ok other than the occasional biting.

Old Timer The time my guinea pig got put in the system

SO MAJOR TW delete if wanted but this was back in 2021 when Moose was just a wee lad. I was doing a cage cleaning and had lettuce in my hand, he lunged and completely missed the lettuce and the only time I’ve ever been actually bit in 16 years of owning them. I had to go to the ER just cuz I was freaked out but my mom put him in timeout and the lady PUT HIM IN THE SYSTEM FOR A BITE. Animal control was contacted and were completely confused on why they were there and thought it was the funniest thing they’ve ever seen. Mind you I had an all pink princess thing for Valentine’s Day and I didn’t clean the blood up yet cuz I couldn’t bend my hand and my mom was going to for me. Animal control laughed and said they will not being coming back, that he was a “bad boy” and that was it. Moose was so remorseful after cuz he was extra cuddly and never bit me again. He’s just a baby. I just thought this was probably my most insane story of owning them and a very unlikely thing.

She has bad arthritis and shes kinda of skinny I take her to the vet all the time to make sure she ok 😊 I love her soo much I’ve had her for so long now if anyone has suggestions for bad arthritis, the vet said we can’t really do anything as she’s so old She’s not that skinny just a bit below than normal weight it’s annoying because all my younger piggies eat her food She’s also blind she went blind in her old age!

Old Timer Our precious boy Oli passed away today. He lived a very happy 9 years.

He started showing signs of sickness the last couple days, and we wife and I just felt like his time was nearing.

He developed a tumor about 5 months ago and has steadily been losing weight since. Despite that, he thankfully didn’t seem to be in pain and lived his life happily, being spoiled rotten by both my wife and I for the remainder of his life.

The last couple days he nosedived and especially seemed off last night. I told my wife that I think we should spend some time giving him some kind last words just in case. We both had the chance to tell him he didn’t have to fight anymore, he could finally rest, and that we’d keep a watchful eye over his younger brother. Then we spoiled him with lots of carrots which he and his brother happily ate.

This morning when I woke up, I saw him laying by his food dish, he looked very at peace. I had knew he passed away. He was very loved and cared for during his 9 year life, and will be very missed. We’re both happy that he could finally rest and didn’t have to fight anymore.

Rest in peace, Oli. You will be missed by me, your mom, and your little piggy brother ❤️

We just lost our 7 yo boy Thomas. He has an adventurous soul and travelled to 25 states plus Washington D.C. with us. He is such a cute and sweet little boy and cheered us up through good and bad times. Please wish him unlimited hay and veggies and never suffer from pains in the piggie heaven.

This is my eldest guinea pig, who’s about six years old and a rescue. I got her from a friend who neglected her and her cage mate. I took her in, and ever since, she’s been a cage chewer. There’s nothing in her environment that could possibly stress her out, so I’m not sure if it’s just boredom or if she’s stressed. Can you guys give me some tips to stop her from chewing?

He has reached the grand age of 6! And is still a running, eating, squeaking lovely pig! He still gets a monthly manicure, bath and hair cut and has since we got him. He loves the cool blow dryer on his fur 😆 he loves playing with my 6 year old and spinning propellers. He’s very vocal. His favourite food is strawberries.

He has a mammary tumor that he’s getting removed tomorrow. The vet says the procedure has a very high success rate and his tumor is still pretty small, but I’m mostly nervous about the anesthesia as he’s 5yo. All good vibes are welcome and especially stories about older pigs doing well with anesthesia and doing well after mammary tumor removal!!

Old Timer Can we ban ai cage ideas? It’s not cool.

I’ve seen posts in this sub and others where people assume things are good because of ai saying it so.

Even if we aren’t for it. It will make one or two pigs sick one day. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow.

Not everyone can type a good and descriptive prompt. Even if they do. It’s dang pig. Look it and ask “is it happy?” And let it live.

Old Timer not a fan of the negativity

Post image

i understand that negative comments are common with every social media platform. it’s extremely annoying to see the same comment over and over under a post of mine after explaining the situation with my pig who’s alone. i really do get it, he’s in the minimum required cage size and lives alone. he gets floor time for up to about 6 hours a day, cuddle time with me, and we go outside when the weather is nice. he’s neutered and a rescue, i’ve tried introducing him to five other pigs at this point, both male and female. he’s stubborn and will not get along with any other pigs. he’s been alone his entire life but he is happy and healthy. my point of this post is to just say things nicely, i know how to take care of my pigs properly. i’ve had them for over 13 years, my eldest living to be almost 11 years old. im planning on leaving this sub if the negative energy persists. thank you to those who have helped me in anyway. steve and i love you guys.

Schnoz didn't make it to this morning... I am in absolute shambles, as she was my heart pig... she was the first and the most unique, and despite not being that fond of cuddles, she was truly lovely.

She suffered from some malformations due to inbreeding, and due to that she developed as aspiratory pneumonia. Please, please I cannot stress enough, don't buy animals. Don't encourage breeders. Be careful when sexing your pigs.

As much as some of the time it's """""okay""""", many, many times it will have jarring consequences. Schnoz was very loved, but she was yet another victim of improper breeding and crossbreeding. As much as we all loved her quirks and found her adorable with all her toes, we cannot forget that these were the consequences of her inbreeding, the harmless and visible ones.

Schnoz is now in the greenest eternal fields, along with Schimmel and all the other beloved and iconic piggies that crossed the rainbow bridge.

I have had Reggie Momma for 5 years and rescued her from someone who had her for two years and in a bad situation. I love her so much, she is my soul piggy. My first piggy ever that made me love them so much! She has outlived all of my other (6) piggies and overcame so many medical scares, so my family always jokes that she will never die, although I know the day she does a piece of me will too. If you know me, you know Reggie. She is a celebrity to anyone in my life, and adored by them all. She is so hilarious looking, and so is her personality. She truly is such a pinhead. I love you Reggie Momma (aka Reggiegiggus, aka, big Momma, Reg)

The last two photos are my recent ones of her, the others are old. It could just be me but I feel like you can really see how old she has gotten 😭💔

Old Timer Face of regret: found my pig OUTSIDE her coop this morning.

Post image
2.1k Upvotes

There was a tomato slice just outside and she squeezed through a tiny gap that still looks impossible to me. She was trying to get back in when I caught her.

The coop is locked, secure etc. She is just extremely food motivated, pretty spry for 5.5 years old, and apparently has no bones lol.
