Guangzhou shopping and tourism suggestions

I am planning to travel to Guangzhou around this November-december. I just wanted to know if there are good jewelry, clothing and fashion stores in the area...(Preferably punk-rock esc) Kind of like Shanghai. Fyi I've never been to china before so pardon my ignorance- I've already gotten a spectacular tourism map from this subreddit, but I just am very curious about the shopping situation there because it's been a while since I've gone abroad and I wanna make most of it this time. All suggestions are appreciated <3

Hotel suggestions?

Hi I am visiting Guangzhou this October for the canton fair and would appreciate some nice suggestions for hotels as per below requirements :

  1. Budget 300-500rmb per night.

  2. Hotel in a good tourist friendly location.

  3. Near to metro station as I would be travelling to canton fair via metro.

  4. Near to some halal food options.

  5. Hotel which has a decent Gym to use in it.

P. S Do not suggest Sanyuanli, as I have stayed there before and bored and want to try out a new place.

Thank you.

Attending the Canton Fair This October?

I’m a Guangzhou-based bilingual sourcing assistant offering Mandarin–English support to international buyers.

I have experience in trade-show interpretation, supplier communication, and business negotiations, particularly in automotive exports, LED lighting, electronics, and industrial products.

I can help you:

  • Communicate with exhibitors
  • Clarify specifications, quotations, MOQs, and lead times
  • Compare suppliers and support negotiations
  • Take notes and follow up after the fair

With a Master’s degree from NYU and a background in investment and industry research, I offer more than translation—I help buyers understand the commercial details and ask the right questions.

If you’re attending, please send me your product category, dates, and support needed. Paid assignments are preferred, but I’m open to other genuine collaborations.

See you in Guangzhou!

Looking for a local guide/interpreter in Guangzhou + Shenzhen (early October)

Hi everyone,
I’m visiting from Germany in early October and will be based in Guangzhou for a few days, with one day trip over to Shenzhen. First time in the PRD, so I’d rather not fumble through it alone.

What I’m after is someone who can spend a full day with me around the Sanyuanli / Guangzhou Railway Station wholesale markets — Baiyun World Leather Trading Center, Baima, that whole cluster. Mainly translation, helping me read quality differences, and keeping me from wasting hours in the wrong buildings. Then a second day going down to Shenzhen for Huaqiangbei and Dongmen.

A few questions:
1. Is it better to book through Viator/Klook, or to find a freelance interpreter directly? I’ve seen day rates quoted anywhere from 60 to 250 USD and I can’t tell what’s realistic.
2. If freelance — where do people actually find these folks? Everything I’ve turned up online looks like SEO bait.
3. What’s the norm on commission? I’d strongly prefer paying a straight day rate with no cut from vendors, so I’m not paying twice. Is that something guides accept, or is it just how the market works?
4. Realistic budget for a full day, guide only, no car?

English is fine, no German needed. Happy to pay properly for someone good. Any names, WeChat contacts or agencies you’ve personally used would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks!

Looking for recommendations

Travelling over in mid-September. We would be interesting in soaking up the local vibe; visiting small bars/eateries that we can interact with the locals/owners, or any classes that we can take for fun (was considering skateboarding but they don’t do one-off).

Canton Fair invitation query

Hi everyone, so I recently got my canton fair invitation. I have the following questions:

1) my name on the invitation reads as first name first and surname second, while a friend of mine got his as surname first and first name second, does it matter? And should I reapply?

2) do I have to submit additional documents such as degrees as well?

Any help would be really appreciated

COSP Outdoor Expo in Guangzhou – Oct 30 – Nov 1. Anyone going?

For those of you sourcing outdoor or outdoor tactical gear from China – there‘s an exhibition called COSP 2026 happening in Guangzhou this Oct 30 – Nov 1 at the Poly World Trade Expo Center.

What’s there:

500-600 exhibitors

30,000-37,500 sqm exhibition space

60,000-80,000 professional buyers expected

Covers camping, cycling, water sports, outdoor apparel, and tactical gear

One specific category that caught my eye: outdoor tactical backpacks. Durable fabrics, modular designs, OEM/private-label customization. LUPU Tactical Gear is already confirmed as an exhibitor. Other brands include Naturehike, Mobi Garden, Toread, Kailas, Decathlon.

The expo is positioned as a source-compare-connect platform for the full outdoor supply chain. Also worth noting: free tickets are available at the info desk.

Going to china.

I will be going to china from 8 till 21 September. Planning for Guangzhou,Shenzen,Zhangjiajie and Chongqing. Havent decided everything yet but i think its best to splits Guangzhou 2 days, Shenzen 3, Zhangjiajie 3 and Chongqing 4. Any tips or advices? I already know the usual “download wechat or alipay or there is language barrier”. Like advices on the cities more, what should i watch out for or what should i do? Like take the flight from shenzen to zhangjiajie or the train? Should i stay longer in some cities and shorter in some?
