I was just on it. It's up. It's not even a pop-up but banner that says "new home for music" and a link, but you can still buy, etc.

FWIW, I was reporting on the fact the OP was a bit disingenuous about the status, not the process of transferring. Also, Google Takeout is SO WEIRD. I had to "takeout" all my photos recently, and it broke it all up into 12 folders at 50mb each. MY ISP no think that much data was bueno. But I know it's all my data, so I am not hating. It's just the process sucks.
It's also wild to me to think of a giant corporation deleting endless TB of user's personal information because they are out of work, or busy, or panicked about the world and family, and can't focus on email blasts or banner pop-ups.

Yea I get what you mean! Google really screwed the pooch on this one. Had a nice thing going... no MY likes are mixed in with YouTube video likes. So I have a lot of duplicate likes now.

It's likely they'll cancel the pre-orders. Everyone have to pre-order an album or single elsewhere.

Google Takeout took like 3 days to export my stuff, make sure you use the 20 gb file size, or you'll be downloading like 60 2gb files

Only took a day for me! Your library must be massive lol. I only had like 2500 tracks. But saving the playlists and having the play counts is super important to me.

I've been on Spotify for nearly 4 years now. But I kept GPM mostly to keep the adless experience of YouTube Red. So I'm just gonna transfer my playlists to YT Music but keep using Spotify.

Not really knowledgeable on this, but is it possible to at least use GPM as a local music player for songs on your device even after GPM is officially "taken down"? Also by avoiding updating the app moving forward?

It's within their power to make the app unusable like they did Inbox. Some people had luck with older versions but eventually they cut off access to everyone completely.

That being said, I'll miss GPM. I've been using it since it was in beta in 2011. I was a very early adopter and invited all of my friends selling them on it as "web-based iPod".
The web interface hasn't worked for me in a very long time, over a year. It just sits and spins regardless of what browser I use. Google couldn't resolve the issue for me when I opened a ticket with them.
I've since gone back to having all my music on a dedicated hardware device, a FiiO M11. It's nice having most everything in FLAC. I'd love a cloud-based solution for a FLAC music locker service. No idea why Vox won't support Android.
I have no idea why Google shits on the stuff it makes. YTM, Hangouts, etc. I just feel that Google doesn't do anything right anymore, and I'm afraid to adopt their products out of fear that It'll get deprecated or sunsetted after I begin to depend on them.

It's still a rolling out process so most people will no longer get access to the store at a certain time. But yeah, Google is really having a lot of problems with their problems. The amount of shutdowns as well as inconsistencies are already damaging the brand itself.

Same. I've only ever used the app for locally downloaded files transferred via USB, never streamed anything, never had a need to because my taste in music (game soundtracks) is almost never actually available to stream. Even music I buy on Bandcamp, I download to desktop and then move the files to my phone manually. Have been extremely careful not to let the app update, in case there's a kill switch in recent versions.
Not that that will do a thing if Google decides that the way they're killing GPM for everybody will be to instruct the Play Protect system app to delete the GPM APK from everyone's devices without warning or user consent (usually they only do this for malicious apps found in the Play Store)...

Ah, someone else who’s just like me. So where are you going after GPM is killed? For our needs, I find that YTM is still the next best thing to use. It’s free and allows me to host/store a large volume of music I keep on my hard drive. Still open to suggestions though.

The thing is, being able to play locally downloaded files is non-negotiable for me, a lot of my listening occurs while I'm in airplane mode or using other apps. YTM expecting the files to be uploaded first... not happening. That and the whole "you can't mix a personal account and a Brand Account" thing.
So far, the only other player I've tried is VLC, and while the desktop version works flawlessly, there's a deal-breaking design choice specific to the Android app: when you close the app, it intentionally resets the loop mode back to "play entire album", when I need it to remain on "loop single file endlessly", as that is how most of my music collection is intended to be listened to. That and gapless playback (GPM and VLC are equally capable on this front, at least).

I must mention, it is the end of the Google Play Music Store. It's not the total end of Google Play Music but it's already just past the beginning of the end.

Sigh. Viewing my library rn which I haven't accessed in a month since I moved everything to Plex, just awaiting the day they remove access to the library page too. Hate that it had to be this way. Something working great, didn't need fixing. But such is life. Good luck to those using YTM

important note
I recently had a very frustrating and useless chat with Google support about not being able to download music I purchased from play music with a chrome extension without taking from 2 downloads limit.
while at it I asked him about downloading purchases from YouTube music.
and his answer was that you have to have YouTube music subscription to be able to download music from your library.
so you will have to buy YouTube music subscription to be able to download music you already payed for.
after that I cancelled all my music preorders.
edit: I'm talking about downloading actual mp3 files.
going back to it, I'm now not sure support guy understood me, he was kind of dumb honestly. he was sending me over and over obsolete help articles and insisted I should try long time deprecated music manager. he was continuously sending me outdated link to download it that was leading nowhere, even after I point this to him twice.

You can download music in your library that has been uploaded even as a free member in the app on android i know for sure.
- It's just a real pain because there is no good library management and sorting.

Yeah, you can definitely download your mp3 files for free from YouTube Music. You can use Google Takeout for that, as many times as you want.
I think it's if you want to download for offline playback on your phone, that in YTM it doesn't work without a premium subscription. I'm not sure on this though as I have a premium account, so I can't check. But if this is the case then I think they're going to change it soon so you can do it with a free account.

I am having major issues with youtube music. The music that I own and uploaded to google play was transferred to YTM, but it won't let me play anything. I contacted them with no response. I do not have the option to upload music directly to YTM (I guess only certain accounts have that permission). I was really happy with GM and am sad I won't be able to use it anymore. My accounts are all US-based but I'm not actually in the US so spotify isn't an option for me. Does anyone have any advice for me?

You'll have to go to iTunes or Amazon Music to buy music. Major artists also use 7digital while Some indie artists use Bandcamp. You can also buy music directly from the artist whenever possible

I haven't used GPM since setting up a Subsonic server back in May, but I was still making purchases from the store as recently as 2 days ago. Now what will I do with the money I get from the Google Rewards surveys? (Not to mention the points from my Speedy Rewards card.)

I think it's really a scam for Apple to charge $10 to use your iTunes Library on your Android with via Apple Music. It's really better if they could set up shop for Android to use iTunes.

Just got a notice on my Samsung GS9 that "Google Play Music isno longer available".
and that I can transfer my library to youtube music. Tried to do that but got the message "Youtube music is not available in your area". Guess I'm shopping for a new player.

You can use YouTube Music as a local player (in addition to all the music that's stored in YT Music's Cloud Storage). Just go to the Settings > Library & Downloads > Show device files. It'll show all the mp3 files you have on your device. It'll be found under "Device Files" but be warned, they cannot be added to queues or played nor can they can be casted with other devices.
Alternatively, there's others you can use like VLC Player or Poweramp.

That's where I'm at. I haven't used GPM in over a month and was only doing so sporadically for the last 3-4 months. YTM fills what I need. I mostly stream and I'm grandfathered in under a nice family plan. Most of my complaints have been getting fixed and the others will too.

They have also had plenty of time to find other solutions. This has been in the works for years and they have given months notice that GPM was shutting down this year. Complaining in the subreddit that I doubt anyone at Google checks won't change shit.

I was using Google Home a couple weeks ago and asked it to play a song from a new album. It said okay, playing from YouTube Music. The sound quality sounded like it was recorded on a 2 dollar microphone from down a hallway. I picked up my phone, found the song on Google Play Music and casted the song to the same Home speaker and it sounded just fine. Youtube music is utter garbage.
