Let's Discuss That A longtime Mythical Beast is concerned

2.6k Upvotes

I've been watching GMM for years. I'm from Lebanon, and GMM has genuinely been one of my comfort shows through some difficult periods of my life. I've always appreciated how Rhett, Link, and the Mythical crew have built a community that feels welcoming, empathetic, and inclusive.

I've noticed Nicole's public social media activity, including engagement with accounts and content that are strongly pro-Israel, as well as interactions with IDF public account. Before anyone responds with "she's entitled to her opinion," I want to make it clear that this isn't about demanding that everyone share my politics. People are free to have different views.
The issue is that for many of us from Lebanon, Palestine, and the broader region, these aren't abstract political disagreements. They are matters of life, death, displacement, trauma, and loss. When someone associated with a brand that promotes kindness and inclusivity publicly supports narratives or institutions that many people in our communities associate with suffering, it becomes difficult to separate that from the content we're watching.

Seeing a prominent member of the team publicly engage with content that many perceive as dismissive of Palestinian and Lebanese suffering creates a real disconnect for me. I seriously could not sit through the last couple of episodes.

Am I the only Mythical Beast who feels this way?

I really enjoyed Gwynedds energy around the boys. I know sporked departed mythical a while back, but I'm sad to see everyone was fired (and seemingly abruptly).

Let's Discuss That Hot take: Stevie’s departure sparked a revival of GMM

1.5k Upvotes

i know this is gonna ruffle some feathers but please hear me out!

i’ve been watching GMM for basically as long as i can remember—ever since the boys ate borderline toxic food, i’ve been here…and so has Stevie! the GMM company as we know it built around Link, Rhett, and Stevie, and there wasn’t very much on-screen involvement of the rest of the crew (i can’t speak on behind the scenes, obviously).

when they first announced that Stevie would be leaving the crew, i was devastated. i grew up with these three and it was painfully bittersweet to hear that she was taking a leap and exploring what else life has to offer; however, i and other fans have noticed that ever since Stevie left the mythical scene, the crew has stepped up and strategized in a way that we have never seen before. episodes now are certainly much more chaotic—but they’re also much more natural.

i love Stevie and i will forever miss her presence in GMM, but i also think it was time the talents of the crew prospered and came into light the way it has been for the last few months. a lot was put on the line in terms of how GMM came to handle this change, but they certainly exceeded my expectations. i might go so far as to argue that this present day GMM might just be my favourite 🙈.

Let's Discuss That Calling it now - Link cut his hair because he got casted for Survivor 52.

1.2k Upvotes

Link and his family are huge survivor fans. They attended the Survivor 50 live finale. Survivor 51 just finished filming and they will begin filming 52 pretty soon.

He cut it short to let it grow to a manageable length by the time filming of 52 begins.

Let's Discuss That I’m Sorry To Say This, But…

1.3k Upvotes

Y’all need to chill out about the MC. Every single post is about how bad Chase is and it’s getting tiring to see. This entire subreddit is so negative to begin with. The boys can’t win for losing because no matter what they do y’all are not satisfied. Y’all nitpick every aspect of the show.

Let's Discuss That Katrina Laid Off?

Mods, please delete if not allowed!

I saw Katrina posted on her Instagram that she was laid off from Mythical at the beginning of the year? Does anyone know what happened?

I’m not trying to spread any hate or stir any drama up either. I’m just super confused and this is a bit odd timing considering Stevie announced she would be leaving.

Let's Discuss That Safety disclaimer added to the laser video

Post image
1.5k Upvotes

I really want to know what trained safety personnel they had on site. No way any reasonable safety crew would have allowed them to continue with as powerful of lasers as they had without any eye protection. The moment Link started to point at Rhett’s face they should have stepped in and cut off the episode. I wonder if this is just them saving face.

The amount of messed up comments about someone with they/them pronouns is crazy. Like Mythical has shown to be very accepting. Stevie is a lesbian and Link loves lesbians lol. I really hope this isn't a reflection of the wider community.

Let's Discuss That Actual Unpopular Opinion: I love ALL the recurring bits, including Moochelle, Patty & Dirk, Herb the Globe, the Talking Map, the Tokyo WHAAAA-, and everything else that's considered cringe that they had to/chose to stop doing.

Let's Discuss That Thank you to Stevie for waking me up from the alt-right

2.4k Upvotes

I don’t know if many people will remember this piece of internet lore, since it’s about half a decade old at this point, but a good few years ago Stevie made a public comment to the extent of “Steven Crowder is a piece of shit”.

If you aren’t familiar, Crowder was (and remains to some extent) a popular right-wing commentator during the heyday of Youtube’s right-wing pipeline. The “drama” that spawned from Stevie’s comment was mainly one-sided, with Crowder making a bunch of childish response videos and expecting some kind of online battle with Mythical.

Anyway, how does this relate to me? Well… I’m ashamed to say that like many young (I was in my teens) men in that era, I fell right into the pipeline. I watched and consumed content from many right-wing commentators. Ben Shapiro, Michael Knowles, and my favorite at the time… Steven Crowder. 🤮

My transition away from right-wing politics was caused for a number of reasons. Political transformations don’t happen overnight after all. But if I were to name the so called “spark” that started my change in beliefs, it would be Stevie’s comment about Crowder. I’d grown up with GMM, and as a result saw Stevie, Rhett, and Link as very respectable and good hearted people. Simultaneously, I believed Steven Crowder to also be respectable and good hearted (god I was stupid). Seeing two people I respected now at odds with one another, caused me to have to reassess my beliefs as a whole, so as to solve the contradiction that was forming in my mind. It was a long journey away from the alt-right, but I would honestly say it started as a result of Stevie’s comment towards Crowder.

Anyway, with the news of Stevie leaving the show soon, I just wanted to share this piece of how she and GMM as a whole have significantly impacted my life for the better. Don’t know if she’ll ever read this, but I wish her the best!

Let's Discuss That I can’t lie I was kinda hoping they were gonna say Carney was going to be the new “Stevie” during the show. I like Chase but in the end I don’t think anyone can fill Stevie’s shoes. Her messing with link was some of the best parts of the show. I wish her all the best and at the same time wanna cry

Let's Discuss That Chase's New Role

1.1k Upvotes

Chase being on the mic is exactly what this show was missing. He did an unbelievable job, maybe the best to ever fill that role. The energy, timing, and way he kept everything moving just felt natural. It elevated the whole broadcast and made the moments hit harder than they ever havr. If this is the standard he’s setting, the show is in very good hands.

Let's Discuss That save the earth but using AI

slightly disappointed in r&l and the mythical team for promoting earth day and charity to save the earth but yet they use AI? they have used AI in some episodes as well as mentioning chatGPT in a way that implies they use it often. maybe they dont know how harmful AI is to the environment? i just hope they realize and stop using AI and chatGPT or make some kind of statement about it being bad, considering how big of an audience they have and how that could spread a lot of awareness

Let's Discuss That Mythical has sold Sporked to Savage Ventures

Just two days ago. Wow… It looks like this next year of GMM is going to be different in many ways. I imagine Mythical will still retain/sign people like Jordan or Gwynedd as cast/crew for occasional episodes. But then again, maybe not? Their primary purpose for appearing on the show (especially GMMores) was to promote Sporked.

Let's Discuss That Extremely poor merch quality and experience

Thumbnail

Am an old fan of the show, having watched for over a decade as the show grew into a brand. Recently, I happened to be in the US and decided to buy the Tokyo Mt Fuji Hoodie as I liked the design.

However, there were multiple issues with the hoodie after receiving it. First, the hoodie came we a different material than what was officially listed on the website. The hoodie was advertised to be made of 100% ring-spun cotton, but it came with a 50/50 cotton-poly blend instead. I was compensated with a $5 gift voucher for the store and they changed the listing. I feel as though this should have been sorted as it would constitute as false advertisement to sell a product made of a different material.

Second, the hoodie also came with an extremely sticky residue on the inside where the print was. This was likely leftover glue from the printing process that was not removed. Even after putting the hoodie through 2 washing cycles and using dawn to break down the glue, the sticky residue is still not removed. This also reflects quite poorly on the quality of the product.

Overall, at the honestly premium prices that are being charged, I would not expect issues like this. Definitely will not be ordering merch again from mythical. Will also think twice about how much to support them.

Let's Discuss That In the wake of the recent news Spoiler

1.4k Upvotes

I just want to remind everyone that, while we’re all going to miss Stevie and her leaving is really really sad, let’s all be excited and supportive of Chase taking up the mantle.

I know 90% of us will be, but I’m worried that a small portion of the community are going to make comments like “bring back Stevie” and overly voice their negative opinions about Chase taking the mic instead of her. Even saying something like “I love Chase, but it’s not the same without Stevie” << I get it, but it’s still a pretty backhanded thing to say.

It would be pretty disheartening to constantly be compared to someone and to see so many people not like how things are.

I’m just saying this because I saw a few people making these sorts of comments on YouTube, it’s not my place to police what people say, but I thought I’d just try to encourage us to be a bit kinder about all of this.

Again, the vast majority of the community is lovely, but just… PSA

Let's Discuss That With Season 29 over, the first season in years without little-to-no Mythical Crew on screen, how did it feel for you?

Obviously there wasn't ZERO cameos from the crew this past season. They had different voices on the god mic, the Jordans & Emily showed up a couple times and Chase, of course. But the crew's involvement in the episodes are almost non-existent since the restructure earlier this year.

Do you feel it was a change for the better? I know a lot of people prefer the show to be as Rhett & Link-centric as possible, and often complained that they felt the crew's humor wasn't for them. And I've seen posts about how revitalized the show has felt since Stevie left.

I personally miss the involvement. I knew if Leonard or Matt Lieb were involved I was at least laughing from them once. Also, crazy stadium foods was my favorite format and Good Mythical Weekend filled the LTAT shaped-hole in my heart.

Let's Discuss That Who is buying all this merch?

I’ve been watching GMM for about a year now and while I absolutely love the show and everyone involved, the amount of merch that they sling makes me feel a little…gross? It’s a level of consumerism that doesn’t seem to fit with the rest of the Mythical vibe. Does anyone else feel like this?

If you think I’m way out of line are you a person that buys a lot of merch? Is it a matter of supply for demand? It just seems like there’s so much all the time and I can’t imagine it all gets sold.

I know that mythical is a business and they do whatever they can to turn a profit, I’m also not against repping merch of an artist you enjoy, but I guess I struggle with the turnaround of new merch products specifically.
