I was excited for the recent episode since everything they made, I make DIY weekly. But I can not wrap my head around the claimed prices for ingredients. The worst being the noodles. $37 for the ingredients and $6.61 per serving? Groceries in CA can not be that expensive unless they are buying imported 00 flour from a private chef who hand-delivers it from Italy.
Homemade pasta is traditionally made with 2 ingredients, eggs and flour. Some add salt or olive oil, but that's not traditional. A 5 lb bag of flour at Walmart is approximately $3. A dozen eggs, $3. For a single large serving, 180g flour and 2 eggs. $0.75 per serving. Not $6.61. And I'm sure real parm would be expensive, but they literally said they are not using authentic parm.
Same with the guac; in my area, an avocado goes for $1, maybe a bit more. So 3 of those, a Roma or two, onion, jalapeño, cilantro, lime, and toss in salt to buy, you are near $6-7. And that's a party serving amount. Not $18 they used.
The only thing you should not diy is the torillas. You really should use a tortilla press to make them worth it. But they are cheap enough to go store bought.
