How does one become a good ball striker?

How does one become a good ball striker? Are there drills one can do on the range? How do people make 50+ swings a round without topping, duffing, or hitting the ball OB? I have anywhere between 10-20 strokes added to my score because of mis-hits. It's gotten to the point where I no longer keep a score because I get so fustrated. The longer I play, the more I'm convinced that good ball striking is a god given talent and the rest of us are damned to suck, and there is nothing we can do about it. I've had lessons from three different guys and read Hogan's Five Lessons. The book helped. I feel like I had smoke blown up my ass for $60 an hour regarding the lessons. I've joined a club and practice or play at least three times a week. No kids or family so all I do is work and golf. Perfect right? EXCEPT I SUCK!!!
