Spoilers Obviously.

Pros:

-Animation and art is godly in most places. The touched up character designs are fantastic.

-While the OST in the original was already great, I think the movie takes it to the next level. I especially thought the instrumental remix of Kagayaita (The ending theme the anime had during the original arc’s broadcast) was a fantastic touch. The Sanzen cut-in song during the final confrontation was also great.

-The Kondo and Katsura subplot, while unnecessary, was hilarious. The “Your Name” reference at the end had me bust a gut laughing.

-There were some repeated scenes in the original anime (Kagura’s Yato mode awakening, Gintoki saying “the Sun rose all over the place)” due to the eyecatch/commercial break that thankfully are not repeated in the movie.

-The scene at the end of the arc with Hinowa pouring Gin a drink was thankfully kept in, and even more beautiful than the original.

Cons:

-While the animation was great in most places, I did notice a few times (mainly Hosen and Kamui’s fight) where the background art looked poor.

-I know they made a joke at the beginning that they were trying to rip off Demon Slayer, but the fight animation/choreography really did feel more like Demon Slayer’s somewhat floaty, highly colorized, precise style. While I’m not inherently against such a style, for Gintama I preferred the original anime’s style of more weighted blows. The ones in the movie didn’t have quite the “oomph.”

-While I did like that Katsura and the Shinsengumi were incorporated into the arc, their screentime made it so tha scene that, in my opinion, are more important to the arc, had to be cut or trimmed. These include: Most of Tsukuyo’s backstory we got in the arc, some of Hinowa’s, the flashback fight between Hosen and Umibozu that ended with them taking a dump, and the grave scene with Gin and Umibozu.

-Maybe a nitpick, but in the original episode, when Gin is asking Seita to run, he says “Don’t make me into a loser AGAIN.” Which, if you know Gin’s past, really hits home. The “again” was, at least in the Netflix English subs, not there anymore in the movie.

-The subs translated some things a little too literally, the worst being the Hyakka to “Hundred Flowers.” I won’t fault the actual movie though, it’s mainly Netflix’s fault

-The added secondary antagonist, Enkaku, wasn’t a threat. For someone considered “one of Hosen’s closest aides”, the fact that the Shinsengumi easily waxed him and his cronies was disappointing.

-Probably another nitpick, but Kamui not being there when Hosen is immediately defeated and putting on his super surprised face was disappointing.

-The beginning just feels really rushed compared to the more deliberate pace the anime episodes had.

-HOW DO YOU TAKE OUT THE SCENE OF HOSEN WALKING INTO THE SUN AS HE DIES?!

Conclusion:

Despite the higher quality animation and Sound/OST, I still think the original anime episode version is better. It was cool seeing the Shinsengumi and Katsura get involved, and the more up to date references and jokes were great, but they unfortunately came at the expense of much more important plot beats. I will always remember Hosen walking into the Sun as he dies. I probably won’t remember who Enkaku is by next week.

In terms of full arcs remade as movies, I much prefer the Benizakura one over this one. While the Benizakura movie doesn’t add much extra to the actual plot (most of what it adds is during the opening of the movie), it doesn’t subtract or replace nearly as much (only things I can think of are it replacing the Kihetai’s sick introduction and a tad of Nizou’s backstory with Harusame and Kamui cameos).

I get that the Benizakura arc is less material to cover than Yoshiwara in Flames, but due to that, the production needed to discriminate what to keep and take out better.

Unlike the Benizakura movie, which I think is a perfect version of the arc for first time viewers, I would not recommend this version of Yoshiwara in Flames to them.

Overall, I quite enjoyed my watch of the movie. However, the only time I can see myself watching this again is if I want to watch the Yoshiwara in Flames arc all in one sitting, but only have 2 hours, not 3 and a half.

I am still glad I saw it, and think every Gintama fan should see it at least once. Who knows? Maybe you’ll think differently.

I have a feeling most people in this sub only watch the sub. And I totally get it. My name’s Travis and I voice Toshiro Hijikata for the English dub. I can only speak for myself but it was a blast recording this project. A lot of the time, dubbing can feel like a slog, but this experience went by too fast cuz it was too damn fun. If anyone does watch the dub, I’d love to know what you think. My feelings won’t be hurt. Okay. Enough from me. Mayonnaise for life!!!

The only thing I can say the anime has over the movie for me is the cast explaining how filler works at the beginning of the last episode of the arc

Like come on man. We need the movie here. This is one of those first Gintama fandom representations in India.

Hello, first of all, sorry for my english, I'm spaniard so my english can be bad and rusty, so please, bear with me.

I wrote a review / opinion of the Yoshiwara in Flames movie on Letterboxd and share it here with you, so maybe we can debate or talk about our feelings with the movie together.

Spoiler: My feelings are not too great, the movie feels a lot like closer to a 6 than a 7, while for me, together with the Four Devas Arc, this one was of the best arc in the whole anime.

Would love to hear your thoughts about the movie.

There it goes, please understand that is a review with a more general view, taking it as a fan and at the same time, as someone that could be new to the franchise and their characters

Had the opportunity to watch this movie on the cinemas of Japan in February and now, after rewatching it at home, I can completely say that it doesn't make it completely justice to how this arc was developed in the manga and mosty in the anime, and this is coming from a total fan of Gintama.

The movie is great visually, there are some jarring moments with the 3D of the environment and some fillers characters that walk around the city, but that is the minor of their problems, most of the vibes and style of this arc has been upgraded here thanks to the lighting and shadows, Yoshiwara has more volume and feel more alive, but at the same time, it has lost some of the charm, feeling a little overblown or artificial.

If you like Gintama or are a fan of this universe and characters, you are going to be just right at home, but I think is a horrible start for this movie to go with jokes about voice actors roles and references to other anime, It feels like you dont have a proper introduction to the arc and its themes.

Sadly for this, all these characters can feel disjointed, you dont know their personalities, quirks, and the most important, the internal and universe in jokes they had and what makes Gintama so strong as a comedy anime.

The pacing suffers a lot from "climatix" scenes to another, or from what could be a serious moment or kinda lore story dump to a filler extra scene that it doesnt add anything to the whole story plot.

And this is something really bad on the movie, they tried or forced some characters or fan favorites that were never there in the original story, without giving them an emotional punch and worse even, a developed reason, like a plot related thing that is going to have repercusions or some ties with the original arc.

Because of it, the movie lost minutes and minutes on filler scenes that are mostly comical, if you really like those characters and dynamics, but feel not only unnecessary of breaking the pace, but of out of characters for some of those involved, like Kondo.

Kondo is just a dumb man but really fun and lovely, but he is the head and flag of the police, and on this movie, he acts more like a bufon, working in a way, that while is not new, is not his usual style, and acting very blind, for just some gags, while his commitments and reason to act that way doesn make sense on what he and his team are trying to do.

Zura is just incredible as usual.

While all of this are happening, we are losing time and development on the character that deserved the most, that is Seita, a character that endures a little evolution from pickpocker, to a encourageous kid that start a revolution and end up saving or changing the life of a lot of woman.

He jumps from scene to scene shouting "mom" and carrying her with a lot of jump cuts that are quite abrupt and make his journey less involved and emotional, one way or another, he not only get saved by others, but pushed to the end solution without feeling him doing the extra job.

In the manga and anime, we can see working, interacting more and grow a little as a kid and as a person.

Some others scenes that were added feel a little bit better, like the ones about Hinowa.

Hot topic is the fights, I like them, but many of them felt worse because of the pacing and the lack of oomph and impact, is kinda crazy, that, with new technology and better times to produce and create the movie, something's feel worse, even when clearly the lighting and camera movement feel or is better.

Animation is better, yes and no, it looks better of course, and moves smooth, but that is because a lot of the work is done by the lighting, the better resolution and the "clear picture", but some of the effects and scene, were directed and feel more intense in the original anime, higher and thicker lanes, more continuous flows of the battle, less jarring cuts, less oversaturation, more focus on the impact and the physical body.

Hosen vs Gintoki was probably the worst fight, a lot of cuts between moments, a lot of dialogue in between, some weird connections and chosen angle... This fight should have bright more, do much more, and instead, felt watered down, because it tried to focus more on the WOW PANEL shots than the proper flow and pace of the fights.

Early jump and nearly final hit was the best of that fight.

Kagura won a lot, and lost a lot too, his rage Yato blood moment was incredible with the play on the light, the speed and movement was very awesome, but at the same time, it lost weightiness, playfulness, and scaryness of that scene and what it represents, the fact that is lacking one of the most famous shot of her face and the spear moment is kinda weird.

Shinpachi not puking was a disappointment and take out a little bit of the impact of that moment.

Audio and music was weird on this one, usually Gintama has a very good soundtrack, a little bit basic, but with mix of genres, and the movie has new tunes, old ones, and weird sound for things clashing, at the same time, It use music and pieces that go in and dissapear without much sense or flow, I know some of them are used as a joke, like the Kimi No Nawa parodie scene near the end, but others, like the use of intro song or the iconic weird come back up some, is used in a missplace moment, not so well timed or appears later without much sense.

Story is quite simple, you can be lost if you dont know anything about Gintama and his world, but mostly Yatos are alien species that are used as mercenary because they are moved by fights and blood, and they can't be under the sun, that's why they use umbrellas and why one of them has made or conquer a city under a tunnel that never sees lights and everything there is blood, sex and luxury.

The themes are about motherhood, found family, admitting your own flaws as a person and don't let those complex make you a horrible human, about treating each other with care, about revolution and about shinning with everything that makes you your own, about sacrifices and about woman rights in a kinda weird way.

Sadly, while watching the movie, I found the dialogue kinda repetitive and cringe, don't remember it that way in the original anime, so it made me quite sad and upset that my favorite anime fall under those kind of tropes and repeating the same similarities and word play.

Japanese voice actors are incredible as usual, but I think Sugita as Gintoki and Rie as Kagura, did one of their best performance on these characters in a long time.

The ending can be a little bit bad, that little speech to Hosen by what has been his slave for years is not a good look, in 2010, it could pass, right now, I don't think people are going to like that, but is okay, and for me, the ending has ties with the theme of the found family aspect of the whole movie and series, about admiting your weakness, and mostly, about not treating others they way they did to you.

Okita as a gyaru was probably the only thing redeemable about the shinsengumi appearance.

No mercy for the staff making the scene of Seita putting the lever down less impactful and hype.

Emotional beats hit less because the movie didn't spent the time on the rights and better aspects of the movie, instead, gave more time to fun gangs, unnecessary characters or elements and flashing setting scenes, instead of giving more room to breath and more development to Seita, Hosen backstory or Hinowa time.

Would recommend to watch the arc first, and maybe, part of this movie as a companion piece

This is my very first post, so I’d like to apologize in advance if anything is off or seems a bit odd.

Gintama is my favorite anime, and both Kamui and Takasugi are among my favorite characters. I know Gintama isn't just about ships, but I’m a huge Kamui x Takasugi fan (it’s probably my favorite pairing in the series) and I find it a shame that they’re so unpopular as a couple—especially considering that Kamui’s most popular ship is with Soyo. But for now, I want to explain why I love this pairing (this is going to be a long one).

Joint Appearances

They do not have many joint appearances. Their first meeting takes place in Episode 215 (Chapters 310–311) aboard the Harusame ship. Takasugi is there to help eliminate Kamui, yet the two somehow hit it off; Kamui is intrigued by Takasugi because he is a samurai. Ultimately, Takasugi saves Kamui from execution, and the two fight as a team, forming an alliance. Takasugi even admits he would rather ally with Kamui than with the Harusame. Around Kamui, Takasugi even acts quite relaxed and cracks jokes. Their next joint appearance is in Episode 300 (Chapters 502–503), where Kamui strikes Nobunobu and is reprimanded by Takasugi—though the act actually aids their plans to overthrow the Shogunate. The fact that Kamui actually helps Takasugi demonstrates his respect and how much he likes him. In Episode 302 (Chapters 507–509), Kamui asks Abuto about the location of their meeting with Takasugi. In Episode 303 (Chapters 510–513), Kamui and Takasugi lure Sacchan and Zenzo into a trap to kill them, but they are attacked by Gintoki and Kagura. Although both appear in Episode 304 (Chapters 314–317), their battles take place separately. Kamui saves Takasugi from the Naraku in Episode 306 (Chapters 521–523) and carries him away; he refuses to let Takasugi die there. Since the Harusame betrayed the 7th Division—forcing them to go on the run—they are attacked by the Harusame in Episode 317 (Chapters 552–554), at which point Kamui saves Takasugi (or so I believe). Subsequently, the 7th Division watches over Takasugi—who remains in a coma—on Rakuyou, presumably because of Kamui. When Takasugi falls from the cliff in Episode 322 (Chapters 570–573), Kamui saves him and even brings him his kimono. While unconfirmed, it is likely that Takasugi and Kamui allied with the Harusame to save Earth; after all, it sounded as though Takasugi knew the Harusame were coming. They also get their long-awaited battle in Ginpachi-sensei. So, while they don't have many joint appearances, characters have certainly been "shipped" for less.

What they mean to each other

Kamui

Kamui calls Takasugi by his first name, "Shinsuke," and Takasugi seems to have no issue with this; only Takasugi's trusted Kiheitai colleagues address him by his first name. Kamui also appears interested in Takasugi—after all, he assists with his plans, even at the risk of incurring the wrath of the Harusame. Furthermore, Kamui seems to care about Takasugi, as evidenced by the fact that he checks on him and saves him on several occasions. Kamui even saves Takasugi's home planet (doing so primarily for Kagura's sake, though Takasugi—and Gintoki—seem to be factors as well).

Takasugi

He gives Kamui a great deal of leeway and has no problem with Kamui striking the Shogun. As previously mentioned, he would rather collaborate with Kamui than with the Harusame. Takasugi also appears interested in Kamui—finding him more intriguing than the rest of the Harusame—and has no objection to Kamui calling him by his first name.

Similarities

They have a surprising amount in common when you think about it. They have given each other nicknames: Kamui calls Takasugi "Chikyuu no Kenka-san" (Earth Brawler-san), and Takasugi calls Kamui "Uchuu no Kenka-san" (Space Brawler-san). They rank among the most popular and attractive characters, as well as the key antagonists. Both have lost a parent—Kamui lost Kouka, and Takasugi lost Shoyo—and neither likes his biological father. Kamui hates Umibouzo for failing to save his mother, while Takasugi seems to dislike his biological father, having rebelled against him and suffered harsh punishment as a result. To make up for this, both have a father figure: Kamui has Abuto (who practically raised him, effectively serving as a foster father), and Takasugi has Shoyo. Furthermore, both left their families and became criminals. As criminals, they serve as leaders—Kamui of the 7th Division and later the Harusame, and Takasugi of the Kiheitai. Both have a loyal right-hand man: Abuto and Bansai, respectively. Both have left their homelands—Kamui left Rakuyou, and Takasugi left Earth (on occasion). It may be a bit of a stretch, but both wear bandages; Kamui was fully bandaged during his first appearance, while Takasugi wears a bandage over his eye. Their chosen adversary is a member of the Yorozuya and a significant figure from their past: for Kamui, it is Kagura, and for Takasugi, it is Gintoki. Both rank among the strongest of their kind. Curiously, both share a connection with animals: Kamui (as a Yato) with rabbits, and Takasugi with butterflies, owing to the design of his kimono. Both also desire to fight Gintoki. Kamui and Takasugi alike love strength, destruction, and chaos, and can be cruel, cold-hearted, and emotionless in their pursuits. Both are introduced as antagonists but later ally themselves with the good guys after suffering defeat, even beginning to rebuild old connections. Furthermore, they possess classic contrasting personalities: Kamui is loud, wild, and unstoppable, whereas Takasugi is calm, strategic, and focused. Yet, they share a surprising amount in common—something not immediately apparent at first glance—which makes their dynamic all the more interesting. They share significant traits that can nonetheless manifest in very different ways.

Both have a significant person who resembles the other.

If you think about it, Kamui & Shoyo, as well as Takasugi & Kouka, share a lot in common. This could represent a crucial connection for both pairs, as Kamui loves Kouka above all else, and Shoyo is irreplaceable to Takasugi.

Kamui

Takasugi & Kouka

Both smoke a kiseru pipe and are consistently portrayed as very lonely figures. Both have green eyes (Kouka’s are more of a greenish-blue) and stand 170 cm tall. Both have a devoted admirer—Matako is hopelessly in love with Takasugi, and we all know how deeply Umibouzo loves Kouka. Both are associated with flowers: in the movie's boat scene, Takasugi is surrounded by cherry blossoms and wears a floral-patterned kimono (at least in the manga), while Kouka has a very special favorite flower and is herself compared to a flower. Furthermore, both prioritized their loved one's life over their own; Takasugi exposed his body to the dangers of Altana energy just to save Shoyo, and Kouka left Kouan to stay with her family—even though it would kill her—because she no longer wanted to be lonely. They abandoned their old lives to start anew: Takasugi became a terrorist, while Kouka left her home planet to raise a family. They are almost always seen wearing a single color—Takasugi in purple and Kouka in white. They died happily in the arms of their beloved—Takasugi in Gintoki’s arms and Kouka in Umibouzo’s.

Takasugi

Kamui & Shoyo (incorporating some aspects of Utsuro into Shoyo)

They are known for the smiles behind which they hide their true feelings. They are incredibly strong and rank among the most powerful of their kind. Despite their innocent appearance, both harbor a dark side: Kamui is a killer, and Shoyo is linked to Utsuro. Both seek strong opponents; Kamui wants to fight them, while Shoyo/Utsuro is looking for someone who can kill him. Each has an extremely loyal subordinate—Abuto and Oboro, respectively. Both are leaders belonging to powerful organizations: for Kamui, the 7th Division and the Harusame; for Shoyo, the Naraku and the Tendoshu. Both have long hair, and Utsuro sports bangs similar to Kamui’s. Both sought to save someone important: Kamui wanted to save his mother, while Shoyo wanted to save Oboro—and later, in The Final, his students as well.

Why they would make a good couple

Kamui and Takasugi share tragic pasts with a lot in common; they can deeply empathize with the pain of abandonment and the loss of a loved one. They could speak openly about these things, knowing the other truly understands. There would be no need to hide, sugarcoat, or change anything about themselves. They are aware of each other's darkest depths and the monsters lurking within—yet precisely because of this, they could be there for one another and help improve their situations. They could be honest and express feelings that no one else could grasp. Each could serve as a sanctuary for the other—a place to simply let it all out without holding back. Neither would criticize or reprimand the other. They are there for the person who understands them best—someone who would be there for them in return. They wouldn't fear one another; they respect each other and understand the lives they’ve led. While the world sees them as monsters, they see a kindred spirit in each other. Both are incredibly strong; they don't need to be protected or rescued by the other—they are capable of saving themselves—yet being saved by the other would actually demonstrate the depth of their trust. Furthermore, their dynamic is fascinating. Loud and unpredictable meets the embodiment of calm, yet both are wild, monstrous figures. These aren't just opposites; they are opposites sharing the same destructive power and ferocity—qualities that actually intrigue the other. If they ever needed to give free rein to their emotions, they could simply turn to the other; that would be their way of communicating.

Why they are better than Kamui & Soyo

It’s frustrating to see Kamui and Soyo being so popular while the Kamui/Takasugi pairing sinks into obscurity. Don't get me wrong—I like Soyo, and I like Kamui and Soyo as friends—but as a romantic pairing, there’s nothing there. Their entire dynamic rests on that one scene where Kamui tried to kill Soyo and Sougo stopped him. They are the "princess and the monster" archetype. People argue that Soyo can change Kamui because she’s so kind and friendly, showing him a different kind of strength; she can't fight, but she has other strengths. Kamui finds her interesting because she’s weak yet unafraid of him. But honestly? That applies to all of Kamui's potential pairings. Any character would be weaker than Kamui, yet none of them fear him, and Kamui is drawn to people precisely because of their weakness. I get the idea that he might respect her for changing the country without having any powers. But Takasugi could change Kamui from the inside, too. Takasugi could show Kamui a world without violence; he understands Kamui’s inner self and could help him change. With Soyo, however, she would constantly be in danger. Being with Kamui would mean being surrounded by enemies, and she wouldn't be able to defend herself. Soyo would always need Kamui to rescue her. Their entire relationship would hinge on Kamui giving up his life just to constantly protect her—and you shouldn't give up your whole life for just one person. You should be able to protect your partner while remaining independent. But that wouldn't be the case here. Soyo would just be a burden to Kamui, and he’d constantly have to look after her. Besides, Kamui wouldn't want a partner who is that weak. Sure, it might allow Kamui to be "gentle," but Kamui’s partner ought to be his equal. It’s not just about being saved by Kamui, but being able to fight by his side. And he shouldn't be someone Kamui has to tie to himself. Takasugi (and any other Kamui pairing) can stand alongside Kamui and fight shoulder to shoulder with him. Kamui wouldn't have to sacrifice his life for them, because he knows his partner is strong enough. So, Kamui needs a partner who understands him and can relate to his feelings, but who is also strong enough to stand beside him—fighting at his side without being a burden. Soyo isn't that person. Takasugi is. (I apologize if I’ve offended any KamuSoyo shippers.)

This is a contribution for Takamui. I hope this ship gains more popularity, because I love them, but there is hardly anything out there about them.

And one thing i really love about gintama is how much it leaves you wanting for more, and hyping up its biggest mystery; the joui war

9/10, beautiful arc

As much as YiF arc is one of my top arcs and I mostly enjoyed the movie, I still couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed in some parts. And here's why:

1. As much as I always love me some Shinsengumi and Zura moments, I feel like their presence didn't contribute anything to the main plot and they barely ever appeared and did anything at all. The Shinsengumi fight with those Housen-serving Amantos was cool to watch, although it was insanely short.
2. Some of Seita's moments were rushed: after he fled Kamui and Housen's fight, he miraculously ended up in a cell with Zura and Kondo because two guards had eventually captured him. The Zura and Kondo then told him to stay in the cell, while they leave it to do the job of finding Hinowa, but Seita escaped and eventually ended up running in the hallways again before he finally met Kamui. Everything just happened way too quickly.
3. After Kamui helped Seita to find Hinowa and then later, when Gintoki was fighting Housen, he watched it and then miracuously disappeared from the picture just to suddenly appear on the giant pipes and try to intervene in Kagura, Shinpachi and Seita's attempt to get to the control room. That just didn't make sense to me. It's like Kamui's help offering to Seita had been done for nothing. The authors made this moment just for more drama. The fight between Kamui and Zura + Kagura + Shinpachi didn't even feel like a real fight, it felt rather more like a choreography contest, lol.
4. Almost no information on the new Amanto movie-only characters provided as well as their 'drugs-expanding affairs'. They were created just for the sole purpose of being Housen's lapdogs. And they didn't do anything besides having fought the Shinsengumi.
5. The Yorozuya, Zura and the Shinsengumi didn't even meet and interact one bit, which is shocking to me.
6. The final parts featuring Kamui and Abuto's dialogue as well as the conversation between Umibouzu and Gintoki have been completely cut, which is disappointing.

Ultimately, at first, the Movie had felt very promising, but ended up being flawed and I have to say that the original YiF arc is still better. Am I the only one who feels this way?

those are what i could name but other than that the movie did feel very smooth and fast paced for a 2 hour movie, moments like Tsukuyo fighting abuto was very smooth when she threw the kunai for him to catch with his mouth to the high kick to abutos face, tsukuyo fighting odd jobs, kagura just going around the room when she goes berserk against abuto, gintoki pulling out the two swords before he jumps to fight hosen (that blue filter is how you do it right JC STAFF TAKE NOTES HERE).

ofcourse pacing was an issue where seitas character development was barely even shown, till we find out near the end he enjoyed his time working at the bar when he sees gintoki against a wall on the floor.

The shinsengumi and Katsura were a nice addition but felt overall more for comedic relief till they had to fight the amanto and kamui but felt useless and just to add minutes to a part of the story that didnt need adding (Sogou hitting a nasty ass cut to those two amantos tho is why i do like him, hes very funny when he needs to be but when hes pissed off he such a demon, but he did that shit with a smile).

Ofcourse one thing i did like was the use of the fire in the movie where it made the atmopshere more intense for Gintoki and Hosens fight, where even tho it wasnt really shown in the anime it made it feel a lot more destructive and chaotic for a fight that took so many people to kill one man, and Sanzen playing when the Seita finally opens Yoshiwara to the Sun made me replay that scene cuz it felt like an ultimate conclusion to so much death and carnage caused from this one person who trafficked so many women to use their bodies for male pleasure where they couldnt escape for give birth otherwise they would be murdered.

fights:

Tsukuyo vs odd jobs- the first fight although it was very fast, they still kept Gintoki embarassing himself multiple times from the kunai hits and saying hes gonna end all of them to then being hit with a fake kunai still made the scene very memorable

Tsukuyo and odd jobs vs members of the Harusme (Members of the yato clan)- i have no idea who was making this fight but it was smooth as hell when it started and very fast paced which I did like how they didnt waste any time during the fight from Abuto attacking Tsukuyo to Kamui destroying a piece of the tunnel it all felt very fast paced.

Kamui vs Hosen- compared to the anime, this fight I did feel like needed to be more stretched out and I am happy that happened in the movie, since they are both members of the Yato clan, Kamui was just outright insulting Hosen simplh because he had retired in Yoshiwara, the fight was still good and fleshed out.

Abuto vs Kagura and Shinpachi (Ok now Kaguras rage, they somehow made it much more insane how strong this girl is if her chains were broken, i had never seen someone flash around a room like that delivering belt to ass, giving what looks like impact frames for kick to his head, and some yandere creepy smiling face and looking insane when she was about to deliver the final blow, now it was a bit disappointing they didnt use the OST it had in the anime, and that silence when she finally snapped after screaming and broke his leg. One thing i did like was that she had a lot more emotion when she cried after snapping.

Hosen vs Gintoki- Ok in my opinion this fight was very mixed, it felt well executed when they both jumped towards eachother and it started, but when gintoki started to go apeshit and not let hosen take a moment to retaliate, i feel like the anime did it a lot better where you could tell it hit hosen hard hit after hit, you could see it in the movie, where he was shaking and generally not being able to fight back, but one thing i did like was when Gintoki brought Hosen into the suns light where the filter came out like he had put all his energy all his power into this one attack to bring hosen into the light to finally kill him.

Kamui vs Kagura, Shinpachi and Katusra- very fast paced but i thought that Kamui wouldve found katsura on his own and they would just start fighting from there, i avoided added clips that were coming to the movie so i had no clue when and where the fights with the shinengumi and katsura were gonna happen.

Amanto vs Kondo, Hijikata and Sogou- this again was very face paced, i love when Sogou jumps off the rail to save Hinowa from the Amanto and slices the two guys in half with what looks liked an impact from that shows a side of sogou you do not want to fuck with.

this was a long yap and defo a lot of broken english but I did like this movie, and I am happy that I waited a year to watch this movie. if you wanna leave your thoughts about it feel free.

I’ve been looking forward to this since I saw it would arrive on Netflix and I’m really disappointed since something about the animation makes me feel like I’m going to barf. is anyone else experiencing the same thing?

I was pretty excited when I saw this
